I had such a lovely birth with my first in the hospital that im considering a home birth.

I have just asked my OH and he says no because if there are complications he would panick. He also said that he understands that ive had one child so im "large" down there and this one will come out easier but he still says no. I think a beating is on the cards

I just want to be in the comfort of my own home and not have to worry about the midwives telling me off because i want to go outside say goodbye to my sister and OH like last time.

How can i persuade him and what do you think i should consider? xx

Well you do have another 8 months of persuading so I wouldnt worry too much just yet. Yes there can be complications but a midwife would never let you have a home birth if she knew you hold a risk. She would only allow it if she was certain. But some risks creep up on you last minute and I know quite a few home births can end up in hospital anyway. I don't think you need to think about the birth just yet xxxxxx

11 Weeks and 3 days xxxx

Oh i have my sister to look after little un while im in labour, my birth plan and everything lol suppose its because ive already had one, plus i like planning ahead haha xx

I think his concerns are normal, but maybe suggest he goes to a midwife appointment with you were they can talk to you both about it, it may help both of you and definately come up with a decision together. If he knows what will happen if a problem arrises and that midwives will be there with you at home, he may ease and see he is not solely responsible for you. I have heard many positive stories about home birth and its a very personal decision, the midwives actually tried to talk me into a home birth with my last baby but I wasn't comfortable enough with it, especially as I go into shock afterwards cause my labours are very quick and they warned me that the baby can also go into shock so they were my reasons nothing else.

I decided to choose home birth this time round after having a great birth experience with DD. My OH didn't need any convincing as as soon as we got our bfp I told him that's what I wanted. All I'd say is research, research, research! Then present him with your facts, figures and research.

At the moment I have at home a box full of stuff that the midwives provide and they also bring with them entonox and meptid (or sometimes pethidine) and resuscitation equipment-just in case. Also they have an ambulance on stand by just in case you need to transfer but I was told the main reason for transfer is that mum or baby (or both) are getting tired rather than any complications.

If there was such a situation where you might need a section then the mw calls ahead and the surgeons prep up whilst you're transferring so you would go straight in when you arrive.

I saw a consultant last week who's all for home births as it means your not taking up their beds! I'm sure if there was high risks involed you wouldn't be allowed to have home births but plenty of women do!! Keep persuading OH, I'm sure he'll soon come around!!

mamofmany you describe me in everything you say lol
