Hey ladies.

As some of you may know i have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and i have been attending hospital appointments left right and centre as they need to keep a close eye on me.

Well... I went back to hospital yesterday after doing self finger pricks to monitor my blood sugar levels for the last week and just as i thought the hospital have said my sugar levels are pretty high in some places even after changing my whole diet and cutting out all sugar, It turns out my body itself is producing too much sugar so although my change of diet has helped it obviously still isnt to their standards.
We had a scan yesterday and it shows that baby has a rather big tummy which is what they look out for in ladies who have Gestational Diabetes and he now weighs 4lb 5oz .. It was only just over a week ago when he weighed 3lb 8oz.
The hospital have asked me to go to a diabetic clinic at 9am tomorow morning to be shown how to inject insulin into myself as this is looking like what they are going to start me on, (either insulin or metformin) They are wanting me to continue doing my finger prick checks for another week and then go back next Tuesday to hopefully decide what the next best steps are for me.
They have said that under no circumstances will they be letting me go past my due date and its looking likely that i may be induced at 38 weeks or possibly sooner depending on how much more weight baby puts on in a short space of time, They have also said c-section may be required as when baby puts on weight all of the fat goes onto his shoulders which makes labour and delivery alot more complicated.

Sorry for the long post just thought some of you ladies might of wanted to know how things were going since i found out i had Getational Diabetes.

Mmh, mine was 4lb4oz at 30+4 and I don't have GD :faint: but no one has mentioned baby coming early due to size, or the topic of c section either due to size. I have a very low placenta which might cause me to have to deliver early, possibly by c-section but this is purely placenta related and not to do with the size of the baby at all, so I'm not sure why they are saying this to you, unless it's solely related to the GD.

I'm sorry to hear you're having to go through that, I had it with my first...luckily she came two days early and was just over 7 pounds... As soon as I found out I was pregnant this time I started on a low sugar diet... To find out this week I have it again! Back to testing 4 times a day! The joy! Hope it gets stable and you get a lovely natural birth xxx

Thanks for the replies ladies..

Princess.... Its not just to do with the size of baby its to do with the sugar levels in mine and babys body, It can also cause baby to be diabetic and cause problems for him after the birth. Its pretty complicated but i suppose they no best dont they, I will just have to do what i am told and i cant go wrong lol. xx

Kerry5a... Sorry to hear about your GD and i hope everything goes ok for you, They had me testing 8 times a day including through the night :0 lol xx

Oh Hun I hope they can make things better for you with the metformin or insulin and u don't go down the c-section route. Baby at 38 weeks would be ok though eh? :)

Thanks for the replys ladies.

I have put an updated thread on how i got on at the Diabetic clinic today. To cut a long story short i have been put on insulin.
