How do you know if baby gets to the hind milk or not?! I'm being totally stupid I suspect. I just feed on one side until she decided she's had enough... Then sometimes she wants more soon after so I swap sides assuming that side was finished. I really have no idea what I'm doing though!!!

Yellow poo!

If the poos have a greeny/browny tinge then too much foremilk, the more yellow the poos the more hindmilk she's getting. Also foremilk doesnt settle babies so she won't settle between feeds, although that's hard to tell with a cluster feeding newborn. & weight gain, foremilk will not give as much weight gain as hindmilk as there isn't as much fat in it.

But main thing is bright yellow poos :) lovely ey!?

Oooh that's ace as her poos are super yellow!!! Yay!!!! I never believed I'd get so excited about poo. Haha

Tell me about it! I'm still waiting on one from Harrison, sighhh.

Something I should of mentioned was not to panic if you get a green poo, H still occasionally has them, it'll be just where they have decided they want a "drink" rather than a "feed" so don't bother bringing the hindmilk through. I rememeber panicking so much at my first green poo but remembered back through the day where he had a couple of very short feeds so obviously didn't want a "feed" as such. If that makes sense!

I asked the Hv this and you can tell when they get hind milk coz their swallowing slows down when they get to it. I would just say feed on one breast till its empty before starting on the other then you know they have got it. If baby is getting too much fore milk their poo is slightly greeny and they can be quite colicky.
Xxx

How do you know it's empty?!! They stop feeding?! I know that sounds dumb...my boobs never feel overly full either which seems odd but there's always milk there if I squeeze a bit.

You can really tell with mine, they are very full before and they just feel empty after. Normally the baby will pull off and then try and relatch a few times were they aren't getting any milk, however they do that when they need winding too so try burping her and if she is still doing it then she prob has drained it!

Carry on doing what your doing :D

Your doing a fab job!

Mine will feel a bit floppy once she's finished lol

Mine go floppier for sure but never sure if it's empty. Oh well, she seems to be getting the hind milk acc to the poos so that's what counts x

I don't think mine started to feel floppy for a while def not whilst she was as little as your lo

If she's latching on well and coming off the breast herself she is most likely getting the hind milk. I think the main reason for a baby not getting the hind milk is a bad latch because their sucking is not stimulating the breast enough for it to come through. Also as has been said she will suckle n swallow more slowly when she gets to the hind milk. It is hard to know though so just carry on with what you're doing as I'm sure it's all good :-) Congratulations btw. Don't get on here much anymore due to a baby who doesn't seem to want to sleep during the day grrr !! xx

It is only now I feel my boobs are full, Callie is 3 weeks old. I switch feed to get my supply up as needed domperidone to help that also. She slows down for the hind milk and now she is pooing I got yellow poo at last yay.

Funnily enough after posting this my boobs feel fuller as, she's been cluster feeding so they're obviously filling up more. They feel pretty tender!
