Had an appointment today, I'm 35w3d, for the first time my blood pressure was high. 124/96 when usually it's no higher than 110/66. MW asked about flashes which I get occasionally (more stars than flashes) and headaches (quite a few but not severe) and has asked me to go back tomorrow evening to check again. She said I'll need to go to hospital if still high. What will they do at the hospital? OH is at work on nights & will miss my evening appointment & I'm wondering if I'll need him there if I had to go to hospital, or if it'll just be monitoring & I could manage myself. Is high blood pressure always bad, or could it just be normal?

I had this last week, the hosptial will monitor you and baby for 20 mins do blood pressure, check your urine for protien and a blood test!

Hi im 35 weeks now and went through this exactly 2 weeks ago. . I had my 34 week app when I was 33 weeks bp was highish 130/80 which isnt that high but it was a big difference to my regular. . Told to return in a week was 130/92 she wasnt happy so called the maternity unit and got me in for a day of monitoring or they say a day I was only a few hours but told to expect to be in for the day as they have no idea how busy they will be.. so arrived got put in a room and midwife came spoken to me.. was lovely done a normal midwife appointment checklist bp (130/82) wasnt concerned. . Urine, prob bloods but id had mine done the day before so she just checked my results. . So she basically said all that was going to happen was I would sit in the lounge for an hour or 2 and be called in every 30 mins or so for bp monitoring and if all was well she was happy with me.. anyway my day turned out differently as I mentioned my midwife said I was to ask what they thought about a growth scan as I was a bit small and as soon as she asked how many weeks I was and felt about my tummy she started flapping about taking about emergency scans as I felt about 5 weeks behind! It was really scary! .. anyway everything looks fine and im booked into have other scans to make sure hes putting on weight but regards to the bp monitoring I wouldn't expect u to be in more than a couple of hours if its your o only issue, maybe a little waiting about for blood results if you need them. Good luck xx

Ive got to say I was really impressed with my hospital they were so good they even done the babys heart trace with the stickers on your tummy and you click when they move. . Not sure if that was because of my wee ones size but I hope ur app goes as good as mine I was really happy with how well looked after I felt xx

I had high BP at app when I was 35 weeks. I got sent to day unit and had to stay in as b P never went down. I had blood tests and had to collect urine for 24 hours but was aloud home after. I was in and out for the next few weeks tho.
I got monitored and eventually put on labetalol a pregnancy related tablet for high BP. They settled it Down but I was on a high dosage and it was monitored very closely. I got induced at 38 weeks and baby was delivered naturally and she was fine :) my BP did take a while to come down but that was because of my weight, and I have being diagnosed with white coat syndrome. I panic when iI go to drs and raise my own BP.
I'm OK now though and my little girl is very healthy. They know what they are doing huny x
.

My BP got to 160 over 109 so although yours seems high, it's not at a dangerous level hun. Mine was at that point.

Thank you for that, so hopefully I won't be worrying and so OH won't need to be there.

Oh I'm glad everything went well for you & little one is okay. I've had the trace before due to reduced movement. I guess I'm in for another long boring evening in hospital (mine isn't too great, last time I was left alone on the trace & baby's HB went really high so it was bleeping emergency & MW had left me & didn't return for about 20 minutes. A student had to come in & see what the matter was. So I'm not looking forward to being 'monitored.' But, the only thing that matters is baby is okay. :)

Oh no hun that's not good. My hospital was overrun aT times I just buzzed and buzzed. Your there because you aren't well. So they need to see to you. Try Nd stay calm, don't talk while they are taking BP is only advice I have. If it's going to be high there is nothing you can do about it hun. They will make sure u n your baby are OK :) take some magazines, a snack and drink lots if you can :) x

Oh I'm pleased your little girl is doing good! :) Yeah at least I know now if I go in I'll be for a while, wasn't expecting it last time & was bored out of my mind once I knew baby was okay I just wanted to go home. This time I'll take a book or something, and yeah, food! Haha

My BP isn't dangerously high no which is good, :)

I think everyone else has covered it, but yes, basically monitoring (of baby and bp), plus urine and blood tests. High bp isn't always a sign of something bad so try not to worry. A friend of mine "just" had high bp during her last pregnancy, which never developed into anything else. With your bp, it's just the bottom number that's the worry, but it's still not too high and they can always put you on labetalol to keep things under control. Just to give you an idea of a pre-eclamptic blood pressure, mine was 220/110 at its worst. I'm sure everything will be fine xx

Well, went today & my BP was even higher, had urine checked & they found protein (and leukocytes but I don't know what they mean yet) so had to go through to hospital. Had my BP checked over a few hours it got quite high & they wanted me to stay in overnight. Had bloods taken, nothing showed up (thankfully) so the doctor said I could go home (I'd been asking every half hour since I arrived, really didn't wanna stay!) and I have to get BP checked twice a week from now, & they'll go from there.

So fingers crossed it's nothing serious.
