Hello, am new here but been a lurker for ages - wierd as i feel i kinda know you all a bit already! anyway i'm mummy to 4 month old alex and need some advice!

feel bad for asking this  as i am lucky that my lo started going through from 8 weeks. however he has now begun stirring once,or twice and last night the record of four times through the night!

not properly waking just fidgeting and making noises and if i dont go in and soothe him/ give him his dummy he jgets wose until he wakes up then i have to get him back to sleep with controlled crying. not hungry (was never really fed on demand and has been in a routine since he was about 4 days old) and botty is fine etc.

am beginning to think he stirs when coming out of a deeper sleep state and is now doing it out of habit as i always go into him (he never gets picked up though).

any thoughts or anyone else had this? x

is he on solids if not maybe u should try them they do say to satrt wen bubs stops going thro the nite

Hi Sarah
i started him on solids about 2/3 weeks ago.

i know i'm lucky he was going through from so early but i had got used to a full nights sleep and i want it back!! :D

i wonder if its to do with his solids maybe?

anyway thanks for the reply!

i work for a company that build swimming pools. i am the pa/secretary/ dogs body to the Md and one other director. i really like my job and the people i work with but still would rather stay home and play with my fave little chap! i dont mind going back though as only 2 ½ days a week.

do you work or are you a ful time mum?

im a domestic assistant 3 short days a week its ok but same as u would rather stay home lol

Hiya
It could be a growth spurt maybe?

Another thing is the sleeping patterns, babies have a short sleep cycle and can easily wake when they are in the light REM sleep part of the cycle. One trick is to place your hands on their tummy when you think they might stir. The extra security it gives them can help them pass back into deep sleep without waking up more.

Hi Urchin - i did wonder about a growth spurt.

would try the hand on tummy trick but i cant get to it as he's a tummy sleeper lol. perhaps it would work on his back? will give anything a try!

i'm sure this is only a slight hicup in his sleeping  lol

thanks again guys!

blimey urchin ur good lol!!

I'm sure it's would be just as effective on his back as his front, IF that is the problem :)

hi ya,

It horrid when your routine changes isnt it.... you cant work out why they change when your not doing anything different.

It might be to do with the food, I have a few friends who have had this prob.
Only you really know what soothes him best.... Aimee stirs alot in the night but if I was to go to her she'd wake up and prob start crying - the more im there the more she crys !
Luckly she manages to get herself back of most of the time if she wakes, sometimes with a grizzle but I dont go in if I can help it. However I dont leave her to cry it out and she just stresses even more.

He basically needs to learn how to get himself back off to sleep - how im not too sure
the pickup/put down works quite well

yeah i think you're right - he needs to settle himself again.
we did controlled crying to get him to go to bed without rocking etc and he now goes to bed awake and falls asleep happy as anything, so might have to put up with a few bad nights and let him get himself back off to sleep - seems to work for him!

bless him he is so good otherwise, he goes to bed at 7.30 and he wasnt waking until 7.30am before this last couple of weeks. as you say its tough when you had a great routine going and then it goes wrong!

Did i read on here somewhere that you're from Horsham? i live just outside in a little village, Partridge Green.
