So my wages from one job for the tax year were 3218.16

That's before ni and tax.
Im guessing i got taxed 20 per cent as it was only a part time job, how do i get the figure before the 20 per cent was taken off?

I've tried ringing for a p45 as i never received one and over 7 weeks they're still fobbing me off so I've had to do this as they won't accept the estimate (its for the year 10th/11)

Thanks x

would you have even paid tax and ni on under £4000?? possibly not? xx

Yeah i did i had that job which was around 20 hours a week, then another which was ten hours and after those i started a full time job in the march before the tax year ended in April.

I think I've worked it out now, i do 20% over 100 multiply by the amount earned... So 20/100 x 3218.16= 643.63 :-) i bloody hope so anyway, my old job have been so crap! X

No Hun that will give you 20% of the figure you have there x

You should work out what 3218 is 80% of x

So 3218.16 divided by 80% is 4022.70 x

So the amount to put down for earnings before tax is 4022.70 x

Is the 3K figure after tax and ni?

If so then that figure is 80% of the total. So if you divide by 80 and multiply by 100 that will give you the original figure?

Oh :( well ill just have to put it all down as that... I don't know how to work it all out..I've just had oh ring me from his camping trip, Charlie's screaming in the background in bed as i think he's tired he seemed ratty despite sleeping loads this morning and he didn't eat his dinner, ohs gonna try and work it all out and text me.

Argh and i have stupid ginger hair that stinks of hair dye and i look like an idiot, and have work in 3 hours and i don't wanna go cause im a big stress face!! :brat:

I'm a bit confused

Is this to work out your income to give to tax credits for your renewal?

Are you trying to work out your income before tax & NI? If so you need your tax code or you cant work it out. HMRC will be able to tell you what your tax code is. Your tax code is the amount that you are allowed to earn before you get taxed. For example, if your tax code is 651L - the L gets substituted for a 5, so its 6515. Then you have the figure you earned...say 10,000 - you get a tax free amount of 6515, so that leaves 3485, that you can be taxed on, if the tax is 20% then you pay 20% of the 3485 - 20 / 100 * 3485 = 697 - so you would pay 697 tax over the whole tax year, then you'd need to devide that by the amount of times per year you get paid. Does that make sense? I used to be a tax officer for HMRC & thats how it was worked out then.

KEEP ALL YOUR WAGE SLIPS - ALWAYS loooooool - dont worry i made the same mistake once, now, i have a very special folder for them & I go off my head if I dont get my wage slip.

Hope this helps

xxxxx
