Well i've been left in charge of arranging our holiday this year and its to be in the UK mid June.

We always go abroad but because i'm pregnant and wont fly (due to last miscarriage) we are trying to decide where to go.

Ideally want to go on train as me and OH want to relax rather than stressing over driving.

So then where to go????? Oh my god i'm going around in circles on the internet.

Thinking maybe Scotland. Open to any ideas though.

Can anyone recommend somewhere they perhaps have been on hols or even if you live there. We are looking for nice villagey type feel, good food, few pubs (for OH lol) little shops to browse, go for walks etc

This hol will certainly be different to our usual hols but hey its our last one just us two before we are a mammy and daddy too

Any help would be fab. Ta.

I'm not sure how to get there on train but if your in Northeast its quite a nice drive across to The Lakes... Ambleside in particular is a lovely place. Has gorgeous resteraunts and a few good pubs as well as being close to the lake. Me and OH went this time last year whilst I was pregnant and really enjoyed it :)

I'd go further north in Scotland... somewhere on the North West coast like Plockton, it's really beautiful. If you remember the tv programme Hamish McBeth it's where that was filmed. It's not far from Skye, either, which is lovely.

I absolutely loved the Lake District, too. We stayed at Bowness-on-Windermere and OH and I rowed across Windermere on a wee row boat. I dropped an oar in the water, oops.

ISLE OF MAN!
It's beautiful! You can get the ferry across and the whole island is linked by a tram system! xx

Ooh thanks for those suggestions girls.

I'll do my homework on those places later when i get time.

Thanks again

As above I'd suggest the lake district, or the lochs in scotland (we stayed with my grandparents in perth, but pitlochry would be a good base, less chavvy probably.. no offence to anybody from perth lol)...

Otherwise, pick a random Haven - we went to Devon on a Haven (Sun) holiday and it was fab, couldn't fault it for things to do or see... Woolacombe Bay when I was pregnant and most recently Sandy Bay (just outside exmouth).

And as "boring" as it sounds, there's nothing wrong with a silly weekend in Wales... Rhyl etc... eating sugar donuts and candy floss on the beach, and playing in the amusements... there's loads of bnbs there.

For towns, Shrewsbury, York and Chester are pretty and lots of shops and nice things to see but that's it really they are just nice towns...

I know it's a fab place! My nan lived there for about 30 years and my best holidays were over there staying with her!

i would say the highlands..or lake district. You can get to both by train, but you would really need a car for sight-seeing etc...although you could hire one.

A few days in Edinburgh followed by a trip up north, there are plenty of nice places to stay and visit.

It all depends what you want. We like to rent a cottage in the arse end of nowhere and totally relax (it has to have nice views, log burner etc)..well my hillwalking days are over! Cottages in scotland are much cheaper than in the lakes, plus its a bit quieter in the summer...lakes tends to get mobbed!

hey.

My aunt has a caravan in a village called Coldingham. Its a lush 8 berth one.

Its out in the country and beside the coast so plenty of long walks.

dead small village couple nice pubs and the caravan site has its own bar and club with nightly things on in the summer.

Coldingham is between two other villages which you ca either walk to or get the bus.

It can be slightly expensive to get a caravan in the park but if you fancy it pm me and I can find out how much she charges for a week for you.

(its the scoutscroft holiday park you want to look at)

So many great places in the UK, loads of nice spots in Scotland (I lived there for 17 years!), lots of lovely places in the north of Wales (family live there), the Lakes are nice in northern England, Devon area is stunning in the south etc....I guess decide whether you'd like to go north or south type thing and take it from there, so many nice places all over the UK there really are.

Oh plus I'm sure where ever you decide to visit someone in the forum lives there or visits there etc and can give you even more detailed advice.

Wow thanks for the info girls. :cheer:

Will show OH your suggestions tonight when he gets in and have a look on the net.

Thanks again
