Oliver has over the past few days refused to eat anything but his yoghurt. he clamps his mouth shut & wont accept the spoon of food at all whether it be porridge, veg puree, fruit puree. I've tried going back to basics - i.e. just one flavor rather than a mixture but not made a difference.

He will however ram toast into his mouth.... but he just gets a mouthfull but doesn't swallow, ends up spitting it all out.

WHY! what can I do to make him eat again? :(

I'm worried, cos I go back to work in 4 weeks time & have dropped 1 day milk feed so far - he REFUSES a bottle/cup for milk. and I'm gonna have to drop his next one soon to get him used to not having any thru the day (if he continues to refuse the bottle/cup). But I'm worried he won't be getting enough sustance if he's not eating either?

Should I just fill him up on yoghurts?

have you tried different finger foods ? something easier to eat ? rice cakes and organix crisps ? lelands also attempted with success this week ham , bread , cheese , tomato and cucumber but will opt for rice cake over all above lol

I'd be inclined to let him have a go at feeding himself, either finger food or spoon. Might be messy but if he can be involved in it all he might want to eat it.

I'd not go with just yogurt otherwise it may be harder to try to get him to eat other food.

i wouldnt worry he may just be going through a phase. ky also does this when he clams his mouth shut and refuses everything usually lasts a couple days the he goes back to normal.

the last time he did it was when he'd had antibiotics when he was poorly. i gave him the medicine on a spoon and he point blank refused any food from then on. im positive he thought i was going to give him more medicine. within two days he went back to eating again. hes done it a few times but always gone back to eating. My son is also a yoghurt monster, loves the damn things he'd eat them continuously if i let him

Thanks for your replies ladies

I managed to get him to eat his porridge today & also a courgette/cheese sauce puree this afternoon - still not back to normal, but at least it's going in.

I've also tried to increase the finger foods - I've put some tomatao (skinned & deseeded), cheese and a pile of cooked noodles on his tray today which he enjoyed flinging around the room! :rotfl:

How weird, Ryan had the yogurt phase too..!!

I put it down to teething or something - he was on stage 3 and then just regressed almost overnight to just stage 1 purees and yogurts. I think he wanted something that he didn't have to chew.. either a throat virus sort of thing or teething. But I could be completely wrong.

Let him try with the spoon, and just keep trying different purees until he'll start accepting chunks again :)
