I've been exculsively expressing for 12 weeks and haven't come across this yet.

Twice today when I've finished expressing and pulled the funnel away there has been "snot like" gloopy milk on my left boob. Its rank!

Is it a sign of infection or something - both boobs are really sore when expressing at the moment, but I thought maybe they were adjusting to the new pump?

Now both nipples are bleeding after the latest expressing session

It hurts so much

Tweety do they feel hot to touch and red or is it only the nipples?

sorry pressed sent too early. that snot like milk i was told that its because of a clog and it will go away while pumping. for me it helped to massage while pumping with a hot bottle on my boob

the only think that relieved my cracked nipples was the medela hydrogel pads. i would put creme before pumping and the pad after that and until next pumping.

if it is the whole boob that hurts and its hot and red then i am afraid that it can be mastitis and you have to contact your gp as depending how bad i is you may need antibiotics.

thrush can hurt badly too.

do you latch aaron at all?

I was going to say thrush.
Does baby have any white patches on his tongue? Do you have any pain after a feed? Does he fuss at feeding? If so these can all be signs of thrush x

I'm exclusively expressing hun, Aaron isn't able to latch due to low muscle tone so he is bottle fed.

I have a feeling it may be cos I've changed pumps, the symphony must be stronger than my other pump.

Christ I'm in agony though - I lathered on the lasinoh after last express, so will see how I get on over the next few days

Keep expressing to keep the milk flowing, I know it hurts but if there is any infection in there it needs to come out.

Take simple painkillers if you are able too. Try and go braless as much as possible, was bras/ pads at 60 deg. Rest, rest, rest...

Simple guidelines for mastitis is...heat, rest and empty breast.

Have you checked your temp?

It may be a plugged duct, mastitis developing; in which case GP Monday morning or a&e if it get significantly worse tomorrow, or possibly thrush although the symptoms you describe don't sound like thrush.

Or like you say, adjusting to new pump. Just keep an eye on how you feel, red, hot patches on your breasts.
Hope you feel better soon x

My temp has been fine, I've been battling a cold for a couple of days now (its completely kicking my ass!)

I've been putting off expressing as I'm in so much pain, I suppose I'll just have to man up!

How are you feeling today bab? You need to keep expressing bab it might be the pump adjusting but it's always beat to be safe and keep pumping. Try a hot flannel on your boob while pumping the milk will come easier and quicker and will help even if its my infection will help with the stronger pumping too xx

Hi girls

Feeling a lot better today, my volumes were pitful last night and I was getting really worried

I slept through the night as I was exhausted and just wanted a break.

I woke up at 6am in agony and got up to express, and got loads out, and it wasn't too painful.

Second express of the day got me nearly double what I normally get, and hardly any pain. I've not had any discharge since yesterday, and the bleeding has stopped

Thank you all my lovelies xxx

So yeah

I now have a massive blood blister on my right nipple

Awe bab (((hug))) sounds like this new pump is working your boobies harder than the other one - on the up side your boobs will get used to it and you will get more milk in the long run - its a hard thing expressing I did it with my last for a bit when she had thrush and my nips - OMG!!! My first pump was so painful! I got a blood blister too! And then I switched the pump to a softer one and I got naf all - went back to the first pump and my boobies got used to it but it hurt allot xxx

I'm still very sore - I still have raw sores on my nipples ...BUT I think they are healing. Meantime, I've turned the pump down to half power.

I really wanted to do this for the full year, but genuinely can't if I'm in this much pain. The snow isn't really helping as goosebumps make me feel like I've been stabbed in the boob!
