Hi Girls...just wondering if anyone can help please on an OV question...Where I was 8 days late this month, when I entered my dates into the ovulation calculator thingy it said I would be ovulating around the 10th April but by adding it up going by the '12-16 day' rule it says I will be ovulating around the 2nd April...Anyone got any ideas which is right please??? Thanks...

Hey Jarjar sorry Im not the best at all this ov prediction thing as Im also confused about my dates but just wanted to say good luck this time around xxx

Hey jarjar

OPC are not that accurate as I find i get a handful of different dates!

To get a better idea you should try charting and OPKs.

Hope this helps!

WSS ^^^

i was using OPC too, an i to was getting loads of different dates.
i started using OPK's this month an they tell you exactly when you are fertile
have you got fertility friend? xx

agree mine is different every month charting is much more accurate

Thanks ladies...we're not starting OPK's til June, we wanted to have 6 months first with me just counting days and trying not to put too much pressure on ourselves. I thought I had it down ok but this month my cycle was 35 days so it has thrown me off kilter a bit...

Misspink, what is Fertility Friend?
xxxx

Oh and also, what exactly is charting? Is that doing it by your temperature etc? I always thought 'charting' was just counting days...Hmmm, I think its starting to show I'm not very good at the ovulation side of things!!! Lol...

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that you should ovulate 14 days before the first day of your next period, regardless of the length of your cycle, (like it extends the first bit only)

So on a 35 day cycle that would be ovulating on day 21?

Perhaps one of the moderators can confirm this and help more, as I may be wrong

I wish you lots of luck with TTC tho X

Hi JJ mum

I think it all depends on the length of your luteal phase. I ov 10 days before my AF is due so think everyone is different, with 14 being the average.

Jarjar - Fertility Friend is a website where you enter your temps, CM and CP details and it can work out when you are fertile, but you have to try it over a few cycles so it can spot a pattern and you have to fill it in everyday. Heres the link:

http://www.fertilityfriend.com/

You get a months free VIP membership as well.

Hope this helps!

14 days is just the average hun - i thought this ^^ to! xx

Hi JarJar / all,

Your luteal phase 'should' be pretty consistent from month to month, even if your total cycle length is all over the place.

Since ttc, I've noted that my cycle varies quite a lot, however luteal phase for me is always 14-15 days on the dot. (May be different for other people, but not the huge variety that you see in overall cycle lengths.)

Best of luck to everyone ttc! Xx

Oh man, this is getting really confusing!! I thought I could just do it by the calculator thingy and be in with a shot but now I feel like I haven't got a clue! How do I work out my Luteal phase??? Thanks though ladies...it really does all help...

oh hun we dont wont to confuss you.

your luteal phase is the number of days between ovulation and the last day of your menstrual cycle

you can use the ovulation prediction calculator, but using OPK's will give you a more accurate result for when you will be ovulating
xx

i found an example online of a persons luteal phase :

February 01 -- CD 1 - first day of period and new cycle
February 13 -- CD 13 - ovulation day
February 14 -- CD 14 - luteal phase begins
February 26 -- CD 26 - luteal phase ends
February 27 -- CD 1 - first day of period and new cycle

In this example, the luteal phase (between Feb. 14-26) is 12 days long.
this is just an example hun

when i first started TTC i was soooooooooo confused, but you will get it. and we are all here to help you.
