So my left boob seems to be producing lots more milk than right (I can express almost 150 ml in under 10 mins), and the nipple used to be inverted a lot of the time ..... But breeding seems to have pulled it out.

My lo is 3 weeks old today and when she latches on to right boob it doesn't hurt in the slightest and when she sucks it's more than comfortable.

When she latches on to left its toe curling painful (seems to have got worse) and hurts the whole time she sucks. I now have joined the club of dreading her feeding! Between feeds it's constantly tingling and aching, not just the nipple the whole boob! . My right is fine.

So far she has been exclusively bf, which I am proud of, considering I was having to hand express into 1ml syringes in the hospital.

I can't see that she is latching on wrong, is it because my nipple is a lot smaller than the right, the fact it's not naturally out, coupled with fast flow?

I could cry!!

Didn't want to read and run.

I'm not sure I have only been bf 5days so I'm very new to this.

All I can say is I hope it gets better for you quickly.

Could I ask you a question how do you manage your fast flow, I have this and my LO is struggling to keep up with the amount of milk that comes out when he's feeding?

X

Do you have a bf support group near you? they could check your latch and offer advice. Not sure what could be causing the pain, my son prefers one side and is better at feeding on that side but i didnt experience that much pain. Has it always hurt or has it just started, maybe could be thrush if its hurting all the time? x

It has hurt .... But is definitely a lot worse now! Im not sure tho whether in the first week or so my nipple was still inverted and only pulled out during sucking ... Now it's permenantly out (but not as far as the other) and maybe when she sucks she has to suck harder to grasp it. I'm going to put a load of cream on now.

It's a difficult one .... I feel like stopping tonight and giving an expressed bottle, but then by the morning it will be rock hard, she will struggle to get on and if will hurt even more!

I do have a support group so will give them a call.

I had this - one boob was much worse than the other (I had flat nipples too although almost 3 months in I have 2 little nubs now which I'm super proud of)

My sore boob always seemed to be harder and more engorged) I think he found it harder to suckle on that side. I wondered if it was because he had to work harder (this stimulating the boob to make more milk) whilst getting less out. I don't know for sure, that was just my theory.

I expressed a few times from that side to ease it off, but I can reassure you both problems passed. I still find that side less comfortable but not painful any more, and my supply is much calmer now.

Keep at it you're doing a great job and you're almost through the tough part now

Do you have a temp or anything? Not mastitis is it?
Any trauma to the nipple you can see? Changing position may help for that.
Don't over express from that boob if it's on overdrive, that will trigger more milk production.
I find when the boob is very full, baby struggles at the nipple. Letting a but of milk out before hand deflates it a bit and that can help.

Could be mastitis I recently have been diagnosed with this I woke up with a hard patch in one breast and felt like I had flu (shivering and aching joints) really hurts to feed from that breast but simple antibiotics are working xx
