Mhairi's on banana medicine (which, I might add, doesn't taste half as good as I remember! :shakehead: )

I've tried the syringe - screams blue murder. The spoon - shuts mouth tightly and won't take it.

Does anyone know if it's okay to mix antibiotics into food? I'm not sure if hot food would kill the goodness in it or not.

Any tips greatfully received! If I can't get them into her today then we'll be admitted to the LOCAL (30 miles away) childrens ward for IV Antibiotics!

Awwww poor Mhairi.

Arianna just takes it by syringe, she screams to and it takes ages to get the 5ml into her, only squeezing a little in at a time.

Would she take it in a bottle mixed with a little water?

You have my sympathy, it's not easy with a poorly little one refusing medicine!

I did the same as Sarah, it's not nice but I would hold her firmly and squeeze a bit of the medicine into her at a time. She didn't like it and caused a lot of fuss but I knew it was for her own good.

I hope you manage to get some into her!

I either use the syringe and have to give mummy a 'fake' bit, daddy a bit, teddy a bit and finally LO a bit! Takes ages.

Or when I am giving her yoghurt etc, just sneak in a spoon in between of medicine and then back to the yoghurt...when she has forgotten about it... medicine again...then yoghurt... etc. Then you don't need to mix it with food.

Are you using the mouth piece which comes with some syringes, which is made especially for babies (rubber thing whih slots on the end of the syringe). My local pharmacy gives them for free with prescription or I think they are about 50p to buy. Giving Jacob medicine is quite straightforward with one of those.

Will she take a dummy?

The pharmacy at Asda do this dummy where you put the meds into the top of it and they suck it through. Very clever!

Thats what we use, because she thinks its a dummy, she sucks on it quite quickly and before you know it its gone :)

You can get them in Mothercare as well.

if you do mix it in food just make sure its a small amount to make sure they get it all.

i always worry about mixing it with drink and food as i think it will put them off whatever you are giving them and sounds silly but i like them to know they are having medicine and i am not decieving them by hiding it.

luke is mostly good with medicines but when he has been bad i have used a syringe and squited in a bit at a time to the side of his mouth so he can't spit it out or push it out with his tongue!
