Hello,

I've been tried to conceive for 18 months. Got lucky straight away but sadly had a very early MC. Since then periods have gone completely haywire. They used to be a regular 37 days but now vary wildly and can be up to 95 days which makes timing things difficult to say the least.

I've been referred to a fertility clinic and the consultant says due to my age (39) that he wants me to start IVF. So I'm now waiting to hear from the clinic to see if I need a laparoscopy before I start. If not then I have a bag of needles upstairs and will begin my first cycle when I get my next period.

I'm very nervous about the whole thing, especially doling the injections. I got a bit overwhelmed with all the info I was given at my last appointment and am worried that if my current cycle is as long as the last one, I wont get to start till after xmas and I'll have forgotten everything the nurse told me.

Hello
90 plus days boy thats a long old wait. good luck on your journeys , dont worry that theres not many answers here as its not very busy section. I recomend starting a ttc journal , its a place to get everything off your chest amongst a warm and understanding set of ladies.
Hope your ivf journey is a good one.
x Daisy

Hello MrsGriff

Im new to the forum and just in my first cycle of IVF.

Between my last IUI and this one I decided to take a few month break to enjoy my birthday and holidays and chill out following a difficult few years of fertility treatment.

My consultations were at the start of the break and like you i wasnt sure how i would remember all the info - however the clinic staff are very good at talking you through each step as you get to it so try not to worry - its simple really and you'll get the hang of it!

Good luck x

would they not down regulate you with lupron to shut down your body? then they build it back up and i think that means ur not having to wait for af? Im not too sure as i dont suffer with thast but id deffo ask them and perhaps some ladies with similar problems will be on soon.
As for IVF, it does seem really scary so ask loads of questions, the injections are ok and you tube have demonstrations on there for all injections which are easy to follow and really helpful.
Ive just done 2nd cycle, egg collection was today but because i produced alot of eggs i have to have them frozen as they dont want me at risk of over stimulation, which is a side affect of the meds...but mainly in young women (im 27) so at 39 i dont think ud need to worry about that so dont let me freak you out.
If you need any more advice on the ivf procedure just ask im becoming abit of an expert these days lol x

Well done on your egg collection Gemma, that's a lot of eggs so there's bound to be some really good ones there! And good luck Daisy and Mrs G - I wish you both lots of luck with your treatment

I spoke to the nurse and she said that they could bring my period forward so we could start sooner but I need to wait to see what my consultant says first about the laparoscopy. Still not sure whether I need one or not and am getting very frustrated trying to find out.

I had my scan on the 6th October and have been waiting for consultant to have a look at my file since then. I keep getting told to phone in a few days time but whenever I do I'm just fobbed off.

I know I shouldn't be so frustrated especially as we were so lucky getting refered so quickly but all he has to do is look in the file and make a decision - not knowing is really stressing me out.

On a positive, we had an appointment on Tues and while we were waiting we spoke to another couple who were there trying to get their second baby by IVF. It was really good to speak to someone else who had been through the procedure as I don't personally know anyone who has been through it. She was lovely and it was really nice hearing about her success story.
