I was wondering it is normal to not hear a heartbeat in your first trimester especially when you are not sure how far along you are? And you have not had an ultrasound done yet either?

Erm... how did you check for a heartbeat? When was your LMP?

I went to my doctor today and they used a doppler to listen for a heartbeat but they could not find a heartbeat. And I dont remember when my lmp was. I know I should of kept track but I didnt think I was gonna get pregnant anytime soon. So I'm not really sure how far along I am but my doctor thinks I'm 11 weeks because of when I though I had my last period and they went by the date that I told them but I'm not really sure what date my last period started on. This is my first pregnancy btw.

A heartbeat can usually be heard from about about 6 weeks but some a bit later.
How did you find out you're pregnant? Did they take your blood to check the HCG levels?x

Oh okay then and I missed my period and I'm having pregnancy symptoms and I took 5 pregnancy tests that all cam back positive. I also took a test at the doctors office that also came back positive. They did an urine test to check me for pregnancy and the test came back positive and my doctor said the hcg levels were present in my urine. They have taken blood from me twice but they have not said anything abou testing my blood for pregnancy because my doctor said they would do all of that during my first ultrasound. They said they are gonna do a ultrasound on me to make sure it's a viable pregnancy.

I wouldn’t worry. I think although it’s possible to hear from 6-7 weeks a heartbeat most midwives won’t attempt to listen for it till 16 weeks so even later so not to cause undue stress. You can definitely pick up a heartbeat on an internal scan at that gestation. Good luck x

Lolly is right.
At 15 weeks I was at the local MAU and they refused to listen via a Doppler as it was likely not to work. My midwife also didn’t want to use one at 16 weeks but I requested and it was super faint you could barely hear it. It’s only now that I’m in my 3rd tri and hear it often I can tell why they don’t like doing it.

I wouldn’t worry about it until you have a scan to find out how far you are!

With a Doppler it’s common to only hear the heart beat at 13+ weeks
