Just wanted to ask you girlys if any of you have suffered or suffering from headaches in the 2nd trimester??

I have had one now everyday for about 5 days and it's really starting to get me down, it's like a real dull ache all over the top of my head, whats the best thing to do to try and get rid of it ? I have not taken any tablets or anything just been putting up with it and hoped it may be gone this morning but it's still there, so just wondered if anyone else has any tips for getting rid or is it something i will just have to suffer with? Don't remember getting them with my last boy :?

Thanks

hello

I have been having this problem too- last week i had a headache every day.

You are safe to take paracetamol which can help a bit and i try those gel cooling headache pads which i suppose only work if headache is across forehead but i find they really help numb it enough for me to sleep if it is bad a night.

Hope they pass soon

xx

If your headache persists, I would recommend that you get it checked out by the GP as headache is a symptom of pre-eclampsia.

other possible causes,
dehydration - are u drinking enough water? pregnant ladies hav extra fluid and blood so need plenty to drink!
tension - try getting someone to knead your neck and shoulder muscles?

Thanks everyone for your replies

trixipaws I think you might have it, i don't think i really do drink enough at all i probably only have about 3 glasses of fluid a day! I always have a dry mouth and a horrid taste in it, hate it!

Also you say about tension i have a right pain it feels like its between my shoulder blades but hubby recons its probaly my neck, just feels like i have pulled something.... i will ask him to do that later for me and get drinking water see if that helps, how much should i be drinking water, milk ect ? i've never been a big drinker so it's the norm for me....

I have had them from about week 15 (I'm now 18 tomorrow!!) and although they are less frequent they are still a pest - my midwife told me off for not drinking 3 litres of water per day (I've never been one to want a drink though so finding that hard!) and asked me to get my eyes tested. I knew it wasn't that but the test is free and why not sight can change in pregnancy - not a sausage wrong with my vision. Then I read somehwere that because the baby is now making his own hormones that the initial surge we made in T1 is no longer needed and the headaches can be a result of our levels dropping again as baby doesn't need ours now. I don't know, the water is just making me pee even more than I was before (really annoying!) but I have my 20 week check next week I'll be asking about them agian then. She blew my headache/hormone theory out the water when I mentioned it last meeting but I think there is something in it to be honest. I've upped my water, seen the GP and had my eyes tested - what else could it be?! There is another headache thread floating around perhaps on the next page....that might help too

I'm another sufferer although they aren't too frequent I get very constipated and that generally causes headaches have you all got your forms filled out for your free medicard someone suggested to me to get some frybrogel (sp) from the doctors supposed to help with the constpation and therefor reduce the headaches.

I've found just a cold damp cloth draped over my forehead words to get me off to sleep but sometimes I've worken up with a bad pain and have to take a paracetamol.

Hi

I only have them every so often but never took anything for them, i could only suggest some pain killers that are pregnancy safe and hope it helps :? Lets hope your just having a bad week withit andit goes away for you soon

I had them a lot in the first few weeks of 2nd Tri.

I wasn't drinking enough and I needed my glasses prescription changing. That helped.

You can take paracetemol and also try using 4Head. It's a rub you put on your forehead which is like a menthol and cools the head.

Finally, if nothing else works, get along to the GP as they might need to check your BP

Awww Thanks everyone some great replies there

I want to try and manage without taking anything but will take some pills if it gets to much... Im trying the drinking more daily and seeing if thats my problem as i hardly drink anything or i need to pee ALL the time lol but i guess i need to so will try that and if it don't make no difference and they are still bad this time next week i will pop along to the drs, mind you i have a MW appointment on monday so i will mention it to her and im sure she will take my BP...

Thanks again it's a great help to know im not alone on this and not so worrying now :D
