Hi all

I'm allergic to grass pollen and rapeseed. Since yesterday my hay fever has been relentless. I went to get a new inhaler yesterday as I get seasonal asthma and we discussed treatment. I was told opticom eyedrops are fine as they don't enter the blood stream. The doctor also suggested loretadine and told my to have a chat with the chemist.

At the chemist the pharmacicst told me she couldn't legally sell me any products. I had to have a prescription and the loretadine even stated don't take in pregnancy. She sent me back to the surgery's dispenser. After some time I was given a prescription for Chlorphenamine but told to take with caution.

So far I haven't taken any medicine not even my inhaler ( ATM I'm wheezy but when I feel short of breath, I will take it as my oxygen is also baby's). I'm terrified to take anything for hay fever but I am struggling. I'm up most of the night, red rore I have a chest infection now and awful headaches. My friend said one of the nasal sprays is safe. I just wanted to see what everyone is doing. I am Maid of honour next Wednesday and so I really want something for that being set in the countryside. I hope to just get by on my own for the rest of the time. X

I'm really suffering, it starts in March and lasts til September for me :(

The only thing the pharmacist would give me is a nasal spray, Prevalin, that's safe for pregnancy. I'm going to ask the midwife tomorrow if there's anything else I can use.

I just read about Prevalin in my magazine and Boots have an own brand version that seems to have better reviews. Does Prevalin work at all x

To be honest I've been taking cetirizine as I need it through this pregnancy. There's no known risks but no studies have been done either.
I was told talking this on occasion isn't thought to harm baby...

I usually live on Piriton all spring and summer, this isn't as effective as that, but it's definitely helping a little bit.

I haven't read about the Boots version, there's a Lloyds pharmacy near work so that's where I went and I just took whatever they'd give me.

I picked up the Prevlin today. Maybe the pollen count has gone down but my symptoms are really subsiding after using it. I really hope it is the spray working.

I still have eye drops and tablets on standby x

Feel your pain!!!! It's horrible isn't it. I'm on the nettle tablets and camomile tea but I need something stronger really. Last pregnancy I was told you can't take antihistamines but I've heard some women who have??
