It's just hit me how far behind katie's physical development is! I knes when she came out of the cast she'd be behind, but I didn't realise how far behind she'd actually be! I always joked that ella would walk first, but didn't think it would actually happen! Now I'm seeing them together and realising that the likelyhood is that she will walk first and it's hit me quite hard! I know it's silly and I'm so grateful for what I have, but im still left thinking what if! What if the hv had done her job properly?! Shed have been diagnosed like 6 months earlier and the treatment would have been so much easier! And the chances ate she'd be well on her way to walking now!

Seeing ella starting to do things katie can't is heartbreaking! I've already made a complaint about my HV so I don't think I can really make another along the sane lines but it just seems so unfair!? She's 20 months old but she's unable to do things that my 7 month old can! She can't weight bear or anything!

Shes perfectly happy just shuffling about at home and she's bloody quick at it, she easily beats any kid her age and older at a shuffling race, but when they're walking she just can't keep up!

I'm sorry it's been so long and self indulgent! I just really need to get it out!!

Awww hun, I understand why you need to let it out. Have you been informed that your complaint has been recieved etc.? I'm sure it must be heartbreaking to see but it's not your fault. She'll get there in the end bless her :) x

Awww Alice, it's ok to worry and want the best for your kids. Like you said she is happy and that is the main thing. She can't weight bare because she has been in plaster fir months and months, her muscles will get stronger every day and soon she'll have you run ragged lol

she'll catch up, quickly I bet xx

 I agree with Toon, it will take her a bit longer but she will do it hun  Completely normal to worry and it's ridiculous that they didn't pick it up when she was younger.. I'm glad you have put in a complaint and hope you get some sort of explanation.. Ella starting to do things before Katie could actually be a good thing, might wind up with Katie copying her iykwim? Might encourage her to see her sister doing it xxxxxxxxxxx

She will get there Alice, it must be harder as you have a younger one and to see her developing as Katie should have must be heartbreaking - have faith that she will get there and go on to develop and walk and hold her own weight, she just needs to develop those muscles Im sure

 Must be really hard to see :(

I had my ankle in cast for 6 weeks when I was a teenager and I couldnt weight bare on it at first,it was so much skinnier than the other ankle, and that was only 6 weeks. Your LO will build muscle strength and get up on her feet. When she's there you'd never be able to tell the difference between her and her other little friends

Did you get a reply from the NHS? There is a complaints procedure which includes them being obliged to reply in writing to your complaint

Must be really tough hon and totally understand why ur upset and mad with HV. The girls are right tho - she will catch up so quickly - kids do tend to do that. Big hugs while she gets there hon xxx

Yea I got a huge apology from them, that was just one of the many issues I had! We've just been to playgroup and it really struck me then too just hoe far behind she is! I mean, the other kids are a lot older but she just can't play with them! All their toys were like water tables and stuff and she can't do it! I know she will getvthere eventually, it's just so frustrating!

the physios I work with see quite a lot of kids who are late walkers, I have no idea what the criteria for having physio is, but they give parents loads of physical games and activities to help bring them along at home. Id guess you'll be reviewed after a certain amount of time out of cast, if you were still worried you could ask for a referral, Im sure if the consultant was worried about her he wouldve referred already though

It must be soo hard hun. I'm sure she'll catch up in no time :)

We've been told to let nature take it's course for 6 weeks and then see what happens! It's even more frustrating tho that at other hospitals they automatically get physioband hydrotherapy and stuff!

gah, I hate it when they 'wait and see'. I had to ring a health visitor recently cos I was getting loads of referrals and the parents were telling me that they had been worried for a year but health visitor wanted to see how it pans out :wall: why put parents through that?! Even if you had a quick 15 mins with the physio to give you some tips and exercises to do at home surely thats better than nothing?!
