Having a homebirth??

yeah no faff here either. Well i guess the booking appointment is a faff because it takes a while to go thru history etc. But ive only had 2 other midwife appointments and that was just to check heartbeat and urine sample. My next one is at 32 weeks. Jamie Do you not even want to be checked that you're not anaemic etc?

I've had anemia and bp done because I was feeling woozy but everything is okay, no infections etc and baby was perfect at the scan...
I've had such terrible hospital experiences i'd even go as far to say traumatic! My mum is a midwife and she was threatening to sue the woman 'delivering' my daughter because she almost killed her

I'm really sorry you had such a bad experience previously, that must have been very traumatic. I would just be concerned that you could get to a point where you wanted or needed someone else there, and it could be more distressing for you having to contact the midwives out of the blue at that point. Have you spoken to anyone from the local home birth team about how you feel? I know I've heard very positive things about women who have had bad experiences before getting lots of support from home birth midwives, but they can't provide that if they aren't aware beforehand. It might help you to feel more in control? X

i'm still deciding..I may register and just let them know my concerns and that I only want support at the birth
Pregnancy brings on such intense anxiety for me, I still don't feel connected to the pregnancy It's like I haven't registered anything and am a wee bit in denial

Ha, I was a bit like that until my bump popped, it didn't seem real! You've got loads of time but definitely worth having a chat with the local team. I've been so impressed at how flexible and positive everyone has been, I'm sure they'll take your worries seriously. X

One of my homebirth ladies on my caseload was exactly like this, but we’ve built a trusting relationship and she seems far more positive now. Perhaps if you met the right midwife it would make the woeld of difference . Believe it or not, women’s perceptions are of the utmost importance to most of us x

Jaime. For me I'd want the midwife there just incase. My birth experience was fabulous but my hospital stay with complications wasn't. Some of them were awful. I think though that when you chose lose a homebirth and get to see the same midwives constantly, it maybe would help create trust. In your case that maybe would help with past experiences. At the end of the day it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with hun. Nobody can force you to do anything xx

Merry that sounds like the home visit was very positive! I'm pretty set I think. Found out today I'm having another little girl and I think I'd really like her born at home. I'd love to hear your home birth experience though when you have baby xx

oooh congrats on a little girl! how exciting :)

I may go with the doula throughout the pregnancy and then have a home birth midwife for labor... I did have a brief conversation with one of the home birth team , may ring them today to see if they can attend

having some appointments might help you come out of denial?

some women just dont particularly connect or bond in the pregnancy stage. i dont. I look at the scan and think i'm supposed to be feeling something but i dont, its just like "uhhhh" blank. . Its never given me any problems after the birth though. I'm just one of those I deal with pregnancy when i'm pregnant, and baby when baby comes!

Yes I agree, I think It's more of a self preservation thing..I've miscarried so many times I just don't bond until the later stages! But once they're here I still get the overwhelming love :)

I never really wanted to have homebirth, because i was so scared something will go wrong and then you have to be taken to hospital. So in hospital the doctor is always around. But i have some friends who had homebirth and would not change it.

two people I know had homebirths this week. Makes me more inclined to go for it. I have the homebirth team coming out for a visit tomorrow and get me booked in. I think the decision in the end might come down to what time of day or night i go into labour.....

Ooh post how your visit goes! Fx it's positive for you.

Lol this is random but I've been thinking it will be summer when I give birth. I live in a little cul de sac with only 4 families. But all of us use our gardens constantly and go go to our front gardens to get the last of the sun in the evening. Might be strange having everyone outside, kids playing etc if I'm giving birth? Ah I'm confused xx

ah i'm sure it will be fine :) you probably won't notice anything like that once you're having contractions lol!
I know what you mean though, I keep thinking about all these kinds of things!
but then I'd rather neighbors etc were around/outside than hearing other random laboring women in the hospital haha!
There was one lady when I was having Harry who was so loud you could hear her in the next room...we were having alternating contractions so it just sounded like we were going 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!' at each other :rotfl:

so i had my home appointment and the midwife just basically explain how it would work, what they would drop off and when , what would happen in emergency situation etc.

She even said i could get a perscription of diamorphine to have on standby if i wanted, the only reaosn i was considering a hospital birth was in case i needed a stronger pain relief (i honestly thought i was going to die last time) so the fact i can have that at home realy makes there no point of going to hospital. The only thing is in emergency or for any concerns i would have to be ambulanced to the hospital i dont want rather than the one i have chosen . But i guess in emergency any plans or preferences go out the window anyway.

childcare is still the only real problem i have. even having the appointment at home was a nightmare with my eldest just trying to monopolize the midwifes attention and my youngest screaming and clingy because he had woken from his nap too early......

Hi ladies. Has anyone hired their birthing pool? Wondering on who anyone went with?

i've not hired one sorry...

No worries. We’re going to buy one instead, it’s only about £30 more and we won’t have to find £75 if something goes wrong with it while we have it x

I bought one on facebook, it's in impeccable condition!

Turns out the lady who had it couldn't use it and didn't want any money for it just asked I gave it to the next woman in need of one!

How many weeks are you? x
