Has anyone born after 1982 applied for a passport for their child?

I'm totally confused!

The form says if the child's parents were born after 1982 they have to provide grandparent's details or in brackets the parent's claim to British nationality. Both me and oh are British nationals and hold British passports - surely this proves our nationality without me having to go fish for extra information?

Passport check and send were of little help and filled me with no confidence! Cue waste of £9.75! The passport helpline was also clear as mud! So I'm off to Liverpool to fast track the application because I can't risk a rejection won't have the passport in time.

Was just wondering what detail's others had provided and if all was ok?

Yeah for my sons passport(he's 5) I had to put my parents passport numbers down on his form.

We also wasted money and went to main office but still had to provide parents passport numbers for it and worked fine

Thanks!

Grr! The form doesn't say it needs my parent's passport numbers! Bet my dad has no idea where his passport is! My mum also isn't British so I hope that doesn't cause a problem!

I would have sent it off and let it be rejected if it wasn't for the tight timescales!

I had the same thing, it's utterly ridiculous but yeah I had to send my parents' details as well xo

I never had to do that with my three children, but I did send my marriage certificate with mine all at the same time. So that's maybe why they didn't ask.

Yeah i had to provide their full names, town of birth and their marriage date!
Same for OHs parents x

Im sure when i did mine 2 years ago i just put down their names date of birth and where they were fron theyre marriage date divorce date and passport numbers on a separate piece of paper in the form x

I'm sure we just put my parents names, date of birth and town of birth...Poss marriage date too. My dad wasn't born in the UK either but it was fine!
I also changed my name and sent my marriage certificate off at the same time, v complex application but it was all fine!

Have you tried ringing the passport office and asking, I had a few questions and they told me exactly what to do.xx

I provided all this but then was told it wasn't needed by the check and send people at the post office. My husband and my passport numbers already had all the details. The passport arrived no problem. It's very confusing though.x

Thanks for all the replies! I've used both the check and send service and the helpline but both were a bit vague! If I wasn't on a tight deadline I'd just send it off but I was filled with no confidence by check and send!

Hopefully, I won't need my parent's passport numbers because Dad has no idea!

We put everything on ours, both our parents info and passports numbers and we were also asked for our grandparents names, dob and when they were married. They said it would speed it all up. We sent check and send and from the day of posting we got his passport in 6 days so I'm sure you won't won't long xx

I'm sure I applied with only my full details. Only my dad is British citizen. OH hasn't had his passport for years so wouldn't know his passport number. I didn't need to give my grandad's number on mine. For my son I had to sent my birth certificate but that's about it. When you have your passport number it will get you a long way cause it's all matched up in their systems :) I just phoned and just the check and sent to make sure that everything is filled in right with the right coloured pen and the names are in right order.

I was told I didn't have to as me and hubby both had passports. Ours went through no bother x
