Does anyone know if it is considered safe or not to use home hair dyes while pregnant? I been reading so many different things, and they all varying opinions. I need to get mine done cos my grey is really starting to show!!!!! not a good look when you're only 29!

It's not advised. I didn't dye my hair until 38 weeks and only then back to my normal brown as I had long roots so the dye didn't touch my scalp. I wanted to look half decent in the photos when she was born

oh dear....guess il have to keep plucking them out then!!! lol

I never dyed my own hair, but have had my hair hi-lighted by a hairdresser throughout my pregnancy (like you to cover the grey)!

Hi-lighting is considered much safer as the dye doesnt touch your scalp and therefore isnt absorbed into your bloodstream!

can you use a toner or semi permanent with no ammonia in it? i have dyed my hair in pregnancy and all my children are fine but i don't want to use a permanent dye again.

I think opinion is mixed as to how safe it is - its basically one of those things that has never been tested. I didn't dye during first tri, but did after about 14 weeks - that was the advice I was given. I tried to find more natural dyes without chemicals, but they don't tend to cover grey - which was the point of dying it!
I would try and hold out until 2nd tri.

I was planning on doing it before going to my parents for xmas in december and having it cut at the same time, so will get it done at a hairdressers, so will be well into tri 2 when i do it, that is if i can stand the grey that long!

I laughed when i read your post because i just logged in to ask the very same question! I was 33 last Saturday and my grey is terrible! Im gonna be white by the time i give birth

i been browsing online for natural hair dyes that contain no amonia, peroxide etc and that cover grey and found the Daniel Field watercolours hair dye. Have ordered a box to use after i reach 2nd tri, hopefully it will work! Apparently depending on how you apply it, to wet, damp or dry hair gives semi or permanent results.

Has anyone tried these hair dyes? And do they work?

Holland and Barretts do natural hair dyes but im not sure if that means they are safe to use? Expensive though at 9pounds.

My roots are AWFUL!

I had my hair highlighted in pregnancy last time and all was fine, but recently ive been having colour on my scalp. Im having my hair done is 3 weeks so im going to ask my hairdresser but il probably have highlights again!!
