So my birth pool arrived this morning :rotfl: Its great. We ended up getting this one (thanks Tilly)

as after lots of research it appears it will do the job just fine. I'll only be getting a few hours of use out of it (all being well) and could not justify spending £120 on an official 'birthing pool' with all mod cons. Hubby and I worked out how I could hold certain positions without handles etc and as it won't be used in the first stage as I'll be trying to keep as mobile as possible, this seemed like a good choice. We have pump to inflate, hose to fill etc and will do a trial run this weekend. Pics will be taken  Plus we can use it in the summer for us and LO so as s/he can carry on being a water baby in it with us if we can't get to baby swim classes.

Also got this playmat for baby Love that it is bold colours, with noises in it - paper scrunching, little horn, musical toy and a mirror etc. I've been playing with it already

And we now have our travel system (picked it up last week after ordering it ages back - I just didn't want it cluttering up the house)

and our car seat. Much drama over car seat and a flood of tears (and that our oven died and I could not decide what to cook for dinner that night) in Sainsburys in the veg section. Bottom line is - NEVER EVER ATTEMPT TO HAVE A CAR SEAT FITTED BY MOTHERCARE :x They really really do make it incredibly difficult and based on their advice and fitting we didn't have any car seat that would fit our car :wall: Seriously, not a one. Not an infant carrier nor a 0-4 :wall: Yet the one we wanted had already been fitted and had been ok at an independant retailer. We just wanted to buy it and they offered to fit it for us. Our mistake. We should have just grabbed it and run  Anyways, stuff Mothercare they didn't get £129 out of us. Our local independant store did and was £10 cheaper. And the car sear is great. Thanks Mothercare for stressing out a heavily pregnant woman AGAIN! :x

So this weekend is dedicated to arranging where all the baby things are going. Finding them all homes to live in. We have clothes all sorted already and nappies etc, but got to set up the Moses basket, work out where the pram is going to live etc.

Hubby has asked to escape to a game of indoor cricket on Sunday and I said yes so I can play with all the baby things

did u get the pool from amazon?

Yup we did. Arrived today and we ordered it on Sunday. Had to get a pump also for about £10, we got a big manual one over a 12v though. But it won't take long to pump up. Also you'll need a hose to fill it etc and also a thermometer for temp if you deliver in it.

We'll trial it over the weekend but it seems really sturdy and is large enough for me to fit in it and have water over my bump and I am 5'9. As its round it should not have any real problems with the sides etc either. For a few hours use I think it'll do a grand job :)

The only thing I don't like is the pattern but can't have everything

Its great when everything comes together. You sound like a very happy lady :D

Hope the trial run goes well.

Ive not even thought where my pram is going to live

Good price also. I never use Ebay so missed out on the ££ saving. My own fault.

Looking forward to hearing what you think of it :)

I wanted to get that pool and have a water birth at home , but OH wasn't keen

It's great having baby stuff to play with, I can't wait to use mine for real

What an exciting day Sherlock. :cheer:

I love your playmat.

Glad you got the car seat sorted too...I hate it when things don't turn out as you expected and it's 100 times worse when your pregnant...so it's great news that it fitted in the end. :D :D

Love the pool and glad it seems ok as that's the one we're going to get too! I'm only 5 foot 1 so i'm sure it'll plenty big enough for little ole me!
I love the playmat! It's sooo cute!!!!

The travel system looks lovely too, very tasteful!

You've reminded me -MUST remember to try the car seat in the car!!!!

The playmat is great. I didn't like most of the ones we looked at but this is like a farm scene so really suited my tastes as far as children go. I love the bold colours and interactive aspect of it.

If you are on the smaller side you'll need to work out how to be able to float in it as it has no handles. We worked out that if OH is behind me outside it, he can hook his arms under mine so I can lift my backside up and float a bit better. Otherwise I'd be sitting too much (which defeats the purpose a bit if you sit on your backside). We also figured I can lean over the side from in it and he can again support my arms if need be. I'm sure once in it it won't seem so awkward and I'll be able to rest my bump in it which is the most important thing, be it on all fours or lying back a bit.

We love the travel system. OH had fun putting it together and it was all striaghtforward to use. Going to love taking LO out in it :)

And oooo hope it fits ok :) Our problem was our rear seats slope a lot, almost like bucket seats and not enough of the car seat seats we tried seemed to be in contact with the actual rear seat :wall: Therefore making them unsuitable. But the one we got has a wedge you pull down so it supports the car seat :)

do you think it'd work if it had a stool in it or something like that for me to lean on?

I doubt the bottom is strong enough to take something like a stool on it. Maybe a tub but I really would not like to say about something like that on the base.

I think you'd be fine if you can work out a way to lie in it so as to not be sitting. I think try getting your OH to do what we are doing and hooking under your arms so you can just let your body go a bit. Or you may find you float fine without anything. Or can go on all fours.

Sitting could be ok, but as it doesn't help open your pelvis I want to try to find better positions to help baby out. Hence trying to find a way round not having handles.

good point about the base! I will probably order it soon and then try some positions and stuff out. If in the end I can't use it or don't get a homebirth i'm sure the kids in the family will make use of it at some point!

Let us know how you get on with the trial :) xx
