My little boy will be 3 weeks tomorrow and despite being my second I'm struggling to remember things from the first time round.

From day 1 to around 2 weeks he would feed and settle himself to sleep. Waking every 2-3 hours. Just the last few days he's started screaming. He struggles to settle in his basket after the night feeds.

Online it suggests growth spurts can make babies clingy, but I'm worried he's getting used to being held & I'm gonna fall into that "he only sleeps when being held" rut. I honestly don't remember my daughter in the early days (maybe due to exhaustion or PND)

Also his feeding has been erratic compared to the first few weeks, it used to be 2-3 oz every 2-3 hours. Now it's anywhere from 1oz to 5oz and anywhere between 1:45 minutes to 4 hours. Last night he had 1 1/2 oz at 10:30 and slept until 2:30... then had 4oz but only slept till 5:15. We're feeding on demand and I don't mind what and when he feeds, but I'm wondering if this will settle down into more of a predictable schedule after this growth spurt and if a growth spurt is really what it is?

I've noticed his first size are too small and he's fitting more neatly into his up to 3mth, so I'd definitely say he's growing quickly. He doesn't get weighed again until December 4th (from last Wednesday, where he was 9lb 5oz)

Also when to start a routine? Our daughter has a pretty strict routine and has been a brilliant sleeper as far back as I remember (she's still in bed now from 7pm last night) bath (some nights not all) up to bed at 6, watch a short DVD with me or OH in her bed, TV off, story, lullaby then right to sleep at 7.

Started a loose routine last night with baby, bath at 4pm, followed by a feed & then low lights, but obviously he's not going up to bed until 9/10ish with us..

So many questions

Congratulations on your new baby x

It does sound like a growth spurt but with little babies like him you really never know, the can behave crazy at times lol. He seems a bit too little for a routine? in my opinion anyway. And cuddle/hold/carry him as much as possible, he is only 3 weeks old and needs this (again, in my opinion).

I hope eventually he falls into a routine but in the meantime enjoy your cuddly newborn, they grow up so fast xx
