Hi girls,

we are hoping to get a new car in the next few weeks as i currently drive round a tiny little 10 year old punto!

we aren't buying brand new, probably 3-4 years old. does anyone have any suggestions for a good family car?

it doesn't have to be too big as after all we are having just one little baby, so a sort of medium sized car?

at the moment we are thinking the bmw 1 series (not a fan of bmw's but like that one) or an audi a3 although im not so keen.

any other good suggestions?

xxxxxxx

I've got a 1 Series BMW and wouldn't really recommend it as a family car. I love driving it but the boot is small so my buggy hardly fits and when Jake is in his car seat in the back, the front passenger seat has to be so far forward it's a real squeeze for anyone to sit in that seat. The back of the car isn't very roomy so it's tight behind the drivers seat and if my OH is driving it no-one can get in behind him.
Personally I'd go for something a bit roomier in the back and boot to make life easier for yourself. I'm seriously thinking about changing my car which I'd be gutted about as I love it but it's just not very practical.

thanks so much roo! ive been looking for reviews online and they've been mixed. you may have just swayed me against it. i do keep reading that the boot is small. have you thought about what you might change it for? xxx

I would say as long as it has a big enough boot and is a 5 door! You dont want to be collapsing the front seats to get a car seat in the back;)

We had a ford focus which is really roomy... quite a big boot.

But we have just changed to a toyota auris.... boot is a lot smaller but fits the buggy in... just :)

If I am going to change it I would get a focus or something similar to that I think. I would definitely have a 5 door car which my BMW is as collapsing the front seats to get the baby in and out would be a nightmare.

I keep putting off talking to OH about changing my car as I really don't want to have to plus I bugged him for years about getting a BMW so he'll be really annoyed if I say I want to change it now!

we have a zaferia at the min but then we do have 2 and 1 on way !! had an astra before that which was plenty big enough for one. although if u holiday in this county can get tight on space with all the stuff u need to take !!!! lol xxx

I used to have a Ford Focus, not too big but decent sized family hatchback. The boot is great and plenty of space in the back. Loved mine!

Got a Peugeot 307 or 308 as its now known and again it's a good decent sized family hatchback. Mines 3/4 years old an it's been a great car so far.

I need different car too, we also have a punto, def not big enough! We also have a vw camper but thats not really practical all the time, altho big enough! Not sure what to get either we hired a Nissan qashqui a while back which was great just the price tag.........

We've got a Subaru Forester. It has all the benefits of a 4x4 but is not so big when you see it next to another 4x4. Roomy and comfy inside and great boot which is flat and perfect for an emergency nappy change, also has all the isofix stuff etc. You can get diesel or petrol and they don't have to be sporty (unless you want a sporty one).

i was gonna say focus, my mum has a zafira which is fab but might be too big for you or not sporty enough looking haha?!?

what bout a vw passat?

i have a renault scenic which i like i wanted a 'high' car but just cudnt afford a jeep , loooooads of room which is what we needed! :) xx

defo get a five door, ive got a 3 year old Peugeot 207 its a five door
but doesnt shout 'family car'!! as im only 21 i dont want to feel old before my time haha
i loveee the ford focus if your thinking of something bigger!
my friend has an audi a3.. or what about a bmw x3? xx

Ive got a Ford Focus saloon. Its the biggest car Ive owned to date but I love it! Am just shy of 5ft but have no problems driving it and the boot space is HUGE! I regularly tell my OH n 20yr old step daughter that it'll hold both of their bodies easily if I decide to do away with them.....:p xx

I desperately want a qashquai! My SIL has one and it's fab, it's big but not too big and the diesel does 55mpg. I just need to save £11k now, ha ha x

oops, test drove an 08 bmw 1 series today :oooo:

Hiya, we got an 05 vauxhall astra and I love it hehe and it'll be perfect when LO arrives as theres plenty of space and a good sized boot etc. xx

we were considering the astra, heard lots of good things about it. princess, the toyota is nice too only thing is, these cars (maybe not the astra) are coming in not much cheaper than the bmw!!

We changed our car this week, going from a renualt twingo sport to a 5 door family meganne. When we first got the car we didn't know we were pregnant, we changed it for the dog lol, would deffo recommend it tho, we did start to look at BMW 1 series and Audi a3 but Daniel didn't like to drive them, there all about same price ut or ar is sooooo good with petrol, not like our old car lol x
