You can give BF babies water however there's no need for it. Breastmilk is hydrating enough alone for a baby and by introducing water it can mess with your milk supply as water may fill your baby up meaning that he/she will take less breastmilk.

There'll be plenty of time to introduce water after baby is 6 months x

Oooh! I've just thought of a tip! For breastfeeding Mummy's and Mummy-to-be's!

1. Do NOT underestimate the need to have your baby latched on correctly! I thought 'Hey, how hard can it be, you just stick it in it's mouth right?' Wrong! I paid the price too! Excrutiating, cracked and bleeding nipples! I came sooooo close on 3-4 occassions to sending my OH out for formula as I was crying in pain whilst feeding Evie :-( and...

2. Lansinoh Cream - it is a godsend! About £9.99 a tube but brilliant for sore nipples! You can get it on prescription so get to the docs if you've sore nips! :)

Couldn't agree more!!!!!!!

1 even if you wants loads of hugs put your baby down as much as possible from the start it makes them more settled from the start as they get use to it (although if they cry pick them up lol)

2 patting a crying baby on the bump quicker then slowing the parts calms them as it reminds them of the heart beat in the womb and by reducing the speed of the patts over a min or so it calms them holding them tight

3 if your baby is stressing in the bath place his/her feet at the bottom of the bath so she/he feels grounded and place your hand over his/her chest palm down this comforts

Evie, that 1st one is very true! Charley had constant cuddles then 2 weeks ago I thought enough is enough so started putting him down and he has major hissy fits! He crys for ages before he finally gives in and goes to sleep during the day and bedtime is slightly easier but he still crys!
