i have to go to hospital to have a glocose test on thursday, i can't have breacky and can only drink water  has anyone here had a test? what were your results? i'm scared how will i cope for 2 hours once having the first blood test with no food, (i have to go in at 8am so i can cope till then with no food) argh what if the results say i have gestational diabeties? what if it says i don't? i confused lol please soemone help

I had to have it and results came back ok, Make sure you take a good book or magazine with you to distract yourself as the 2 hours does drag on and you're not allowed anywhere - apparently walking around can affect the results so your only alowed to the loo. It wasn't actually as bad as I had thought that it would be - just try and relax in the 2 hours and not focus on how much time has gone by.

You're more likely to have a positive result if you have diabetes in your family or if you have had it before in another pregnancy, if you did have it they normally let you know asap within 2 days and can takes steps with you to manage it. Try not to worry about it hun - most people don't have it and even if you did then it goes away straight after the baby is born so it's not the end of the world xxxxx

i had this and whilst it was a bit boring waiting for 2 hours it didnt go too slowly

i also came back as positive for gestational diabetes. they get you to follow a "diet", its not really a diet but a healthy eating plan really, making sure you dont take too much sugar. they also get you to regularly check your blood sugars. for most people modification of diet is all thats needed so quite straight-forward. you would need to keep checking your blood sugars (finger-pricks)

i had to inject myself with insulin, which sounds worse than it really was, very easy to do. and again, regular blood sugar tests. i had to regularly see the diabetes team to check my control.

most people are not positive but if you do come back as positive dont worry- the management isnt too bad at all.

ou have to have another glucose test 6 weeks after delivery if you are positive but its highly unusual for the diabetes not to have gone after birth

good luck x

hiya anna

im having this test on the 23rd. They told me not to eat from 9pm the night before  The thing im worried about the most is keeping the drink down, they told me it has to be drunk within 15 mins. I know im gonna struggle as im still sick in a morning, not sure it will stay down

i was really worried about the drink, especially on an empty stomach. I found it much better than i expected and knocked it back in one go! you will probably be ok if you sip but sure they must be used to women with morning sickness
