So I went for my hycosy scan today and they could not get the Foley catheter past my cervix, after lots of trying they gave up. On the vaginal scan they thought they could see a polyp but could not be sure. The fertility nurse thinks the next step will be a lap and dye. So more waiting and no increased fertility from the contrast :( I just really did not want a GA and laparoscopy.

Is a lap and dye ok? Is the recovery quick/painful?

Lou x

I'm the same boat as you, I'm on the waiting list for a laparoscopy. I had a HSG and both my tubes are blocked xx

Oh Hun that must be tough :( can the lap and dye help with blockages? Have u ever had a laparoscopy? Why can't having a family be a little bit more straight forward!!

X keep me posted on when u r having yours xx

The consultant said the lap is used to assess the blockages and whether they can be unblocked. The HSG just tells you whether they are blocked or not and nothing else. I found this out last Friday, I was so upset. If that doesn't work then it's IVF which is really scares me :( I want my bfp this year xx

Lou - isn't the waiting just the most frustrating bit. You just want to be getting on with it, and it always seems theres something to wait for. Just wanted to say I know how you feel x x

Hiya, How frustrating that they couldn't do the HSG...If you have a polyp I would have thought they would want to do a hysteroscopy before a lap.
I had a laparoscopy in October. I am not going to lie, I found the recovery harder than I expected but that might be because on my information sheet it said I would only need 3 days off work...LIES! I did have endometriosis removed though so I think recovery is more difficult if you have had treatment as opposed to just investigation.
I actually wanted the lap and didn't think twice about it. I just saw it as getting a step closer to a BFP and its the only real way to know whats going on in there. I only had to wait a month for the op from when they said they would do it x

I have had several laps due to various conditions and have had varying recovery times between 48 hours and a week, they haven't worked for me, but I have a list of issues against me, but my sister had one, had blockages removed and 3 cycles later caught and now I have 2 nieces and a nephew :)
I think it is definitely a case of what they do in there as to how long the recovery is but is definitely worth it :D

I had my lap two weeks ago tomorrow and like lisey underestimated how rough it would make me feel. I reacted badly to the GA however so that was a major factor in me feeling better. The pain hasn't been so bad from the incisions etc, just sore and tender and I've found clothes uncomfortable for ages! I had to have an ovary unstuck from my stomach as well as endo lasered off so I do think it depends what you have done. I came back to work yesterday so a week and a half. Was worth doing as although my tubes still aren't great the stuck ovary would have hindered IVF egg retrieval. I too had mine 6 weeks or so after referral xx

Thank you so much ladies for your replys, you are right it will be good to know if there is anything going on in there, at least this way I will know for sure :) I feel better today, guess I just had to get my head around it as I did not expect them not to be able to do it!! I have heard people are really sore after, they did advice it would be a week off work so I will make sure I take a week!

It's just another thing to wait for, the journey already seems sooooo long! So many people getting pregnant having a baby, having a first birthday and here I am still battling!!

Anyway we are going to keep trying until the lap and just hope something happens before then! They said it would probably be June before I can have it but should find out next week.

Thank you lovely ladies xxx
