Does anyone give there children these. I wasnt sure about them but Jess likes them. Its the lid I dont like. If the hv's get their knickers in a twist about feeding juice out of bottles then how can these be any different.

And all the sports cap bottle that are available for kids? How come they are allowed.

Just wondering......Jess is at her grannies, i have time to ponder these things.

I think they're really bad, but I did allow my kids them occassionally when we lived there. Apart from the terrible contents, the tops are made to rot teeth. Any juice must be drunk with a straw, as it hits the back of the mouth and avoids too much contact with pegs.

All the sports drinks are like that - it's a trend. I only buy water in those bottles now - my kids automatically grab a straw otherwise. I think he hv are probably right, but have little influence on parents as the kids get older. The companies making them have tapped into a boyant market... and our kids are just the best at swallowing the appearance and ads of these products.

Each one to himself, but I say "no thanks".
Sorry... I must sound like a right old biddie!!!

We save the lids up off normal bottles. If ever the kids want the sippy bottles, the lid gets swapped. They hardly ever ask now

Mason has one occasionally, but he's 5 next month and he's only started having them quite recently.

They are terrible for sugar and E numbers etc, my mom buys them for him :? and he has one if we eat out in a pub cos it's all they seem to sell for kids.

I hardly ever let Jess have any drinks like that. I just don't like them. If were out she will have flavored water or milk. I don't give her fizzy drinks either.

Dior wil have them if im out and she has no juice left in her bottle..

ok correct me if im defo wrong but if Dior is wrecking her baby teeth does it really matter as they are all going to fall out any way?

Don't know if it affects thier second teeth but you don't want her teeth rotting and her having to have them renoved when shes 3 or 4 and her having no teeth till she about 7! I sure the odd drink won't do her any harm though.

I dont think thats a good reason dionne, you are funny

Our soft play area only sells them in small bottles ad charges a pound.
And the tops are a pain in the ass because they keep falling down.
I only really use them if I have to, we are still at the squeezing cartons stage.

lol i would never intend for her to wreak her teeth but i think some people are a bit to carefull. i was terrible as a child ate sooo many sweets fizzy pop ect and i have good teeth :)

what does jess usualy drink??

dior has normal squash usualy vimto is that a proplem?

Dionne I'm sure Dior's teeth will be fine but just so people know:

Tooth decay in babies can lead to pain, infection, malnutrition, poor weight gain, and premature loss of teeth – which can affect the development of permanent teeth. In addition, oral health problems in an infant's mouth, such as bleeding gums and cavities, increase the chance for these problems in permanent teeth.

do you think she is fine with normal squash then? he dont have it very strong? i try to get the no added sugar one? but she is having upto 15 ful bottles of juice a day

urchin how can i get her tested for diabeties(sp) what other signs are there? she has gone to bed tonight with 3 beakers of juice and i no she will be so thirsty by morning

I had problems with Jess when she was small drinking all the time. I asked the HV and she reffered us to a peadeatrician(sorry can't spell) and he did a simple urine test.

I was going to ask about these as my friend gives her baby them everyday (sometimes 3 a day). Her baby is 10 months and has been having them for atleast the last 2 months. I think this must be bad on his stomach...or is it?! Anyone know?

I dont think 3 a day would be that good especially at 10 months :(
As well as that though, you would think it would be more cost effective to buy a bottle of diluting juice.

Dionne,
jess normally drinks fresh orange or apple juice, the stuff from Aldi. She goes through it at some rate and so do I. Is vimto diluting now? I mind when I was wee you could get it in a glass bottle and it was great. Ive got a notion for it now.
Me and jess were sitting the other day with a pint glass between us filled with fresh orange and lemonade and a big straw, we were just too hot to move.

Dionne... that just sounds far too much. I would deffinitely get her checked out and it's only a urine test.
The piece that Urchin replied with about baby teeth, etc. is correct. Besides, I really don't think there can be anything worse than a young child with rotten teeth. My parents didn't know any better and when I was 4, I had to have all my molars pulled out.

Another point - please anyone... don't frown at me  ..... I believe it is our responsibility to be aware of the chemical contents of the foods/drinks we give our children. We can not have an outlook of "if it was good for me, it's good for my LO". Times have changed and a lot more shite is added to preserve and enhance. We should be aware that a lot of the stuff in diluted drinks, crisps, sweets, foods, yoghurt, etc. can cause dyslexia, hyperactivity, contribute to developing infant cancer, to name but a few. I am not saying that we should avoid everything, as some of you might say "We can't eat or drink anything these days". I believe in moderation and treats.
In this day and age we're so lucky to have access to all the information - we should know better and shape up our thoughts towards conciencious eating/drinking.

I carried all 3 my kids through pregnancy with great care - there was no way I was going to be oblivious to what I put in their mouths after birth. I know my do's from my dont's - not because I'm obsessive - only because I want the best for my LO. And it is very possible to make it easy. Tescos, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, etc... all have alternative sweets, crisps etc. Organic is not neccesarily better with regards to salt and sugar, but it is one way to avoid the obvious herbisides, pesticides, etc. These days we honestly can shove anything into our mouths, because the ads look great and trust that the info is right. We need to be a bit more curious.

Dionne - don't even bother with the sugar free stuff. The artificial sugar that's used is far more harmful longterm. The stuff should be banned. I read recently that Canada took it so seriously, they banned it in the 70's along with a few other countries.

I've waffled on here a bit - didn't mean to highjack the thread. I'm not having a go at anyone for doing anything different to me. No offence to anyone. :D :D

ok so what is good for A toddler to drink???

Laura- yeah the vimto is like squash now.

as for getting Dior a diabeties(sp) test im going to phone my doctors, to get an appointment to see a doctor its usually a weeks wait unless its urgant? would i class it as urgant?

can u not just go to the chemist now for a diabetis test? or is that just adults? i bet it is!

not sure hun, iv seen the lil signs but im sure it will be just for adults?
just hope Diors just a thirsty baby and thats all

Dionne - it will be so hard to stop a sweet drink now, but can be done with some tears and tantrums.
Water will always be the best drink with the occassional sweeter drink. I can only imagine that the best thing to do (if you want) is to wean Dior off these drinks... starting with diluted fruit juice. Maybe diluted 3:1 and increasing the water every time.

Freshly squeezed juice will be best and you can freeze some amounts so that nothing goes to waste as it's more expensive.

I really hope you come right with Dior and her doc's appointment! Let us know how you get on!

Personally Dionne I would give her only water at night, there is huge increased tooth decay caused by going to bed with juice.

info

If she is thirsty enough she will drink the water.

I found when Mason was drinking alot it was a lot to do with the taste of it, like eating sweets I guess, I gave him a lot more water and diluted his drinks down really well, he complained at first but now he drinks water as well as squash.
