Hi
Has anyone had there baby at frimley hospital?! Do u now if they provide milk if u intended to formula feed or do you have to take your own formula and bottles many thanks

No experience with your hospital but I think it's pretty standard that they provide, as how can you sterilise bottles etc?

None of my local hospitals provide formula, I think you need to check with them as many dont.

I think most do as there's a chance you won't physically be able to feed (if you ended up with a section by GA for example) I bf but due to section I couldn't hold lo properly to get him to latch when I was in recovery so he had formula for first feed. x

Many will have formula for emergencies like Becky but not for if you've planned on formula feeding from the start!

Mothercare do ready made / pre-sterlised bottles (Aptimal and I think Cow & Gate as well). They are about £9 for a 24h supply which should see you through your hospital stay.

I bought these 'just incase' as I planned the use the birthing centre and they do not provide formula.

Didn't need mine in the end but was handy to have them in case I did need them

X

Hi. I had my little boy at Frimley Park 11 weeks ago and I can't speak highly enough. I formula fed from birth and had nothing but support from all the midwives. You do have to take your own formula and bottles but they provide you with a cold water steriliser in the feeding room on the postnatal ward. Once Reggie was born they asked me how I was feeding and for his first bottle they provided a disposable sterile bottle and teat which the midwife filled using a bottle of ready made formula I had packed and helped me with the first feed. Once I'd been moved to the ward for the night I used my own bottles. Reggie struggled feedin in the night and a midwife sat with me and gave me tips on how to get the milk into him, honestly everyone was so amazing. Frimley park hospital is the only hospital in the country to have been awarded an outstanding rating and I can 100% see why. A word of advice regarding the formula to buy.....I bought a starter pack which included 6 bottles which were ready to feed in bottles with sterile teats but I found them to be a waste as I think they are 70ml and far to big a feed for a newborn as there tummys are too tiny to take that much milk so I ended up throwing most of it away. I would buy and pack the small bottles of whichever formula you chose as once opened you can store in the fridge for 24 hours as baby will probably only was between 10/20 ml a feed at first....little and often. There is a fridge in the feeding room on the ward and you just label your bottle of formula with your name and time of opening. I hope this helps. Good luck with everything, you will definitely be looked after.

I had my youngest at Frimley. She's one in a few weeks, but doubt things have changed much since. They are lovely there. I've had issues with breastfeeding my 3 children, so I went prepared with the pre made Aptamil with the teats that attach. They do have formula there too, and provide the little bottles if you need them. And will store unused formula in the fridge for you.
