When you have your 12 week scan and they do the nuchal measurements, do they tell you straight away whether there are likely to be any problems or if everything is ok?

And, if they say all is ok, do you then not have to have the blood test done?

I'm very worried about Downs Syndrome (amongst other things) as I'm 33. We'd planned on 'going public' after the 12 week scan but will wait longer if you don't get the all clear (or not as the case may be) straight away.

Thanks! :)

I asked and she said the measurements were fine but she said she couldnt give me the complete answer until my blood results come back and I would get my results in a week to 10 days. When is your scan hunny? x x

No they don't tell you, you have to wait til bloods come back as they combine the measurements and test results, I'm 35 so was also a bit worried about the risk of downs. However I've still told everyone now or nearly everyone as even if baby has downs or something else I think I would continue the pregnancy and everything seemed fine so far.

Just a repeat of what others have said, they'll take blood too as the combined test is more accurate. I was told the nuchal measurement but that on its own isn't enough to give the result. Don't stress too much about your age, I am 35 expexting my 3rd baby I had my first at 32 and all have been low risk, this one was given 1:100000. x

Thanks for your replies, they're really helpful.

I'm not going until 9 May so a few weeks to wait (and worry) yet.
