My little girl started exploring with food at 5 months. Up until 3 weeks ago she was on 3 meals a day but then caught a cold and went off food completely. Since recovering from her cold we've tried giving her food again (just puréed things) but she gags, screams and refuses to open her mouth. She'll eat anything that she can feed herself, biscotti biscuits, veg, baby crisps- but nothing you try & feed her. What can I give her that's safe for her to feed herself? Bowls of purée just end up all over her or in the dogs tummy rather than in her tummy. She doesn't have any teeth but she does make a chewing motion. Thanks ladies xxx

Just finger foods
More for development and taste than nutrition
Big bits of chopped fruit and veg
Things you eat (minus salts and added sugars etc)
She can just hold and gum them
She will still get enough nutrition from her milk x

Thank you Hun. It's just trying to work out what she can't choke on ect x

It can only be choked on if she bites a big enough bit off x

Sounds like BLW is the we way forward. Have a wee Google.... its not for the faint hearted though!!

The basic premise is babies don't choke as their gag reflux is much further towards the mouth than adults so they will gag and bring up anything long before it gets close to their throat.

We do BLW and Bee eats everything (barring dairy as she has an allergy)

Good first foods for BLW are mini corns, sugar snap peas, baby courgettes, broccoli florets.. basically anything they can hold.

Today we've had toast, apple slices, flat bread with humus, pear slices and mini corns. Dinner will be spag bol with carrot batons.

X
