what is follow on milk? do i need to use it? can i use it at 5 months?

this probably sounds silly but what is follow on milk?
I weaned Maisy just before 4 months and she now has 3 jars a day and 5 6oz bottles, she is gaining weight nicely so why do i have to change her milk?
As she was weaned early, does that mean i can use the follow on milk early?
Any advice please........

hi hun follow on milk just has more iron in than baby formular, it is used from 6 months and is not as filling so that the baby eats more solid food, more of a drink than a complete food hope this helps

You don't have to change her milk - formula manufacturers aren't allowed to advertise milk for babies under 6 months so they came up with follow on milk to be able to get round advertising rules and promote their products.

Babies internal stores of iron begin to drop at about 6 months, and also breastmilk starts to run low on iron at the same time. because of this follow on milk has extra iron added.

Although if you were breastfeeding you wouldn't be concerned about the reduction in iron, you'd hope baby should get it from food sources at 6 months. So I doubt its really necessary to give them extra tbh.
