Hi Ladies,

So can anyone tell me how far before trying you should start with the folic acid?

Is there anything else you (or your partner) should do in preparation? My FH just says we need to 'practice' lots before the wedding. lol

Most of the stuff I have read says to start taking it up to three months before you conceive. Cut back on alcohol and smoking, try to eat healthily and if either of you are overweight it doesn't hurt to loose a few pounds!

Hi Emma and welcome.

Are you actually TTC yet or waiting?

Anytime before you start TTC is good for vits and or folic acid. I currently take pregnacare duo which is for him and her :) has all the essentials that you need for pregnancy.. Or if you are perhaps waiting and wanting to get into a routine with vitamins you could even just buy prenatal folic acid and take one of these a day.

With regards to sex, try not to have toooo much sex, you dont want the sperm diluting. I normally limit it to every other day, that way when it leads up to OV you can afford to have sex every night during that time.

Good luck :D xxxxx

Hi :)

We've just been talking about it recently in preparation. We're getting married in December and will be trying from the wedding night onwards. Just wanted to know if we should be doing anything now or waiting until a little closer to the time.

We're both healthy weights and non-smokers, but I do like the occasional drink! I know that'll have to stop when pregnant, but is the recommendation that you stop before TTC?

No I wouldnt say so, I would say dont drink too much but the social drink wont affect you.

Congrats on the wedding! I would say take this time to get to know your body changes through your cycle as well as you can. Even start yourself a wee ticker with your cycle dates on it just to make sure that your cycles are regular, as regular cycles is a good sign of regualr OV, also keep an eye on your CM this changes through your cycle, mines is random as I think my implant mucked this up, so this month I am using C+ lube which is good. Your CM should be egg white around fertile time. Look out for signs of OV like side pain around mid cycle all this together you will be on the ball by the time you officially TTC!

Its up to yourself when you start the vitamins, maybe even just take multivitamins just now as pregnacare ect can be a bit expensive and if your not TTC till december itll cost ya! Then a month or so before you offically TTC switch to pregnancy vitamins and slow down on drinking ect!

Thanks for the advice Russellmuscle!

I use Womanlog and have done for about a year. We don't use hormonal brth control, only condoms and the Womanlog app proves spot on every time for predicting the next period. :)

I'll certainly try and pay notice around ovulation day as I've never really experienced any OV pain, at least I don't think I have!

Some people dont feel it, some people do, but I remember having it since I started my periods and I always thought that there was something wrong, it kind of feels like pressure or bubbly feeling but its too early for period pains if that makes sense? Sometimes I can tell which ovary I Ovd from as well so it can be quite good...

Thats good that you already are taking note of your cycles and as I said a regular cycle is usually good :) also good that you arent dabbling with the pill on and off as this can muck up your cycles.

I would say the next thing to start monitoring is CM though, just so that you know when you actually start TTC theres nothing that you need to start trying to notice or look out for, and you will get used to how it should look EWCM is needed to help the sperm survive so if you notice that you are producing this regularly then you will have peace at mind :)

No problem, any time love xxxxx
