Hello ladies, I hope you don't mind me posting here but I'm after some advice for my friend.

After 4 failed Clomid cycles she attended a hospital apointment this morning for a hycosy. However, when she was scanned internally they told her that they would be unable to go ahead as they could see fluid in her fallopian tubes. She was sent home and given an appointment to go back and see the consultant in 2 weeks time. The hospital didn't explain why there might be fluid there or what the implications of this might be??

Has anybody experienced anything similar or know what this might mean?? Any advice would be really appreciated. Many thanks xx

hi, im surprised she has had so many rounds of clomid before assesing the state of her tubes? disregarding that, if a scan showed fluid I would guess she would need a hsg where they fil the uterus and tubes with dye to check for blockages. the action of the dye moving through the tubes can also clear out any mucus or small blockages so this may do the trick for her. wish her the best of luck.

Hi there,

I dont usually post in here, but I have had experience of fluid in a tube. I had keyhole surgery to drain it.

I have PCOS and when I was fifteen had the op as it was causing a lot of pain every month. (the months I ovd from that ovary attached to the tube).

The doctors told me it could have been from an infection that hasn't drained correctly x

Thankyou so much for replying. She hasn't had the best of luck with her treatment so far and has now been trying for 3 years. She did question the clomid when she went to her appointments but they said it was fine and kept sending her away with yet another round at the same dosage. The hycosy came as the result of her finally going in to to see her GP and complaining that she wasnt happy with the way things were going.

Ive passed this information on to her so thankyou again for getting in touch xx

Thanks for getting in touch Froslass, Ive passed this on to her, she was having images of having her fallopian tubes whipped out and allsorts. Bit more hopeful that they can sometimes drain the fluid away instead and it may not be such a major issue. Thanks again xx

Hiya Cyprus :)

No personal experience but you friend needs to make sure she has had STI screening which should have been done already but if her treatment has been disorganised already - who knows.

A tube with fluid trapped in it is a likely consequence of pelvic inflametory disease which is typically caused by an STI.

I hope she gets the treatment she should have had from the start xx

This is exactly what I was told, fluid was likely from infection x I wasn't sexually active at the time, but you can get it from tampons, pads, sex toys and other things x

They still screened for STIs even thou I told them I wasn't sexually active lol I had however had a few fumbles with my OH which was probably the cause  from then on I made sure his hands were very clean! I had mine drained, and IV antibiotics, and have had no problems since xxxxx

Thanks for the suggestion ladies but yes she's had all the tests and they all came back negative :???: xx

The fluid can be left from the infection, even if she no longer has it - hence the reason her tests would be negative x

I'd imagine they'd try get rid of the fluid x
