Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice. LO is 5 days old and is feeding well but it's wearing me out as at night he feeds for 10 mins and falls deep asleep for 40mins at a time. I'm worried he's not getting into the hind milk through feeding this way. I've tried skin to skin, switching breast to keep him awake, nappy change and winding. None work for more than a few minutes. I now express after his feeds as I can drain all of the breast.

Is this just how the first week is or is he just a major cluster feeder?

It will stop eventually, my lo was like this as a newborn. Just bear with it and keep doing whAt you're doing in the meantime xx

Sounds like you're doing fine. My LO was just like that, but she screamed constantly for food in between sleeps and lost a lot of weight. I have supply issues, though, and managed to work through them by doing what you're doing - expressing after every feed and giving it to her later. It increased my supply and helped her to gain weight. You're doing really well xxx

Thanks girls, I feel better knowing its normal and I have seen a jump in supply. It is tiring but my hubby has been a super star as well. Just doing all of the bits and bobs around the house. I'm starting to get the hang of it. Xx

Some babies are very efficient. Bethan can be done in 7 minutes. Other times she likes to take her time and can be done in 30 minutes.

Bethan in her first week was feeding little and often. Newborns have stomachs the size of walnuts so it doesn't take long to fill them up :)

I remember the first few weeks being really erratic but it will settle down, just keep going - sounds like you're doing great :D

Some babies are just fast. Georgia never spend all that much time at one feed. Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Harry does he same thing and I was worried he wasn't getting enough but when he was weighed at 10days old, he had already exceeded his birth weight by 3oz, so the mw said he must be an efficient sucker and that I'd been giving him 'double cream' lol! maybe your Lo is the same... xxx
