Hi all, hoping you can help put my mind at ease...

I'm 37 and have booked a GP appt booked for next week, because (barring a little miracle in the next few days) we'll by entering our 7th cycle ttc by then.
I have no idea what to expect... told to go away? simple blood test? 'scary' tests?
Any experience you guys can share would be greatly appreciated as i'm quite anxious about it at the mo :?

Thanks in advance... Xx

I know a few people around the same age as you and they were offered testing and straight to IVF after just 6 months of trying. It really does depend on what budget your NHS local hospital/GP has for IVF treatment, if they've filled their quota and if you have a sympathetic doctor to be honest.

If you've been using OPKs or charting or something to show the doctor that you've been "properly trying" and not just "aiming for a hit ;) " then I would hope that they would take you seriously. I don't have experience of this so just offering a few words of "support" and hope that you don't need to go down any testing route - and that you are taken seriously

i think they may start with a 21days blood test to check your ovulation hormones and possibly a ultrasound to check everything looks normal if u book it for mid cycle they can see you ovulates check follicles etc they may well test your o/h sperm as well as it the easiest test to do usually befor getting to hospital gynea they will try a short course of clomid just to boost things along a bit i think this stuff is fab as it helped me alot

I cant offer any advice but wanted to send you good luck wishes :)

Good luck hon - I've no ideas on what GP might say but got everything crossed for u xxx

hiya
im currently going through all this at the moment..

they took a sample of my OH's sperm and blood tests off me, charted our weight, told me i was fat haha!

hope everythings ok hun xx

Hey Ema-Lou, those docs know how to make you feel good whe you're down, don't they lol!!!
Thanks all for the info - feel a bit more prepared now :)

I know what you are going through, me and the o/h are due to go back to the doctors for the second time on 23rd March........We have been TTC for over 4 years...

The first time we went I had a blood test and a internal and my o/h had a sperm test as well....All depends on your GP and go from there, it wouldn't be anything out of the blue as nothing can be worst then a smear test and I am sure you have had a few off them since a young age...

Good Luck and if you ever want to chat just pm me

Donna xx

So, first GP appt out of the way, and I thought I'd post my experience for others in a similar boat.

The doctor was lovely - just back from maternity leave herself, so she was very understanding.
I had a blood test the same day, and going back in a couple of weeks for a second blood test and for internal swabs to rule out any STDs.
DH has been asked to provide a sample, then in about 3 weeks time (when all results are in) we'll be referred to the fertility clinic at our local hospital, as we're within the eligibility criteria for age, length of time ttc etc.

So nothing scary.. so far :) Xx

Glad u had a good appointment - sounds like u have a great doctor. Hope it all goes well xxxx

Hi hun I think they will want to make sure you are ovulating, they may do an ultrasound also. I have booked an appointment to get myself checked out for endometriosis too. good luck to you xx
