We took Evie to the Zoo on Monday. She was walking around herself in places, but it got very crowded by the penguins as they were about to be fed so we tried to put her back in her pushchair and all hell broke loose

It was so bad we had to leave, everybody was looking at us too

First of many I guess!!!

Oh bless her, Jacob always had paddys about going in the pushchair but he won't walk and I tell him at 26lb 1oz he's too heavy to carry for long! I blame my Dad though as he always put Jacob on his shoulders, lol :D

Evie is heavy to carry too, but is still too little to toddle around a big place all the time by herself, but now she has found her feet she wants to use them!!! She even had a paddy when Daddy picked her up. I can laugh about it now but it wasn't funny at the time

I know that feeling, it happened to us in Ikea - I wouldnt give in and Rosie had to go back into her pushchair for her own safety. One woman stood there watching like I was an abuser!

Jacob had a paddy in Ikea too don't think he likes the place! Lol

I was getting looks like that too. She blinking well did go back in it, as it was for her own safety but it doesn't stop people looking at you does it! And I felt guilty too for making her cry!!! What's that all about lol!!

I felt awful at the time but I'm sure we'll have more along the way

maybe you could try a harness or a wrist link? Rhys is old enough to know to hold my hand but ffion always has either her harness or her wrist link on incase she tries to run into the road or gets lost etc.. ffion also throws a paddy whenever we go to put her in her pushchair.. nightmare!

Sometimes only a buggy will do the job, no laying down on the floor or twirling to get away from the harness!

ahh bless her , asserting herself!

Never nice for mum in public, I really have never understood why people stare, I would look round if I heard a child screem etc (naturall thing to do to ake sure a child is ok ), I then make a point of looking anywhere but. The child does not need all that lovely attention for having a paddy and I always feel for the mum. most people that stare prob have had kids and forgotten what it was like, which is a shame.

It will happen more and more, just try to ignore everyone, your the mum, you will get used to not worring about other people.

The one that gets me the most is in the supermarket, when you say right then and walk to the other end of the aisle and wait there. Your in full veiw of the child and watchign her, people can see you , and yet they go up to the child and say oh what are you crying about , there there, so givign lots of lovely attention and undoing your good work ignoring her !!

I did think about baby reins on the way home, prob worth it now she wants to walk everywhere. Are they all pretty much the same?

Oh yes the supermarket, we've not braved it on foot yet, she is still happy in the baby seat (for now anyway). That would really annoy me too, I understand it's natural to look if a child screams but to stick your nose in like that when they know the parent is close by really doesn't help does it!!

I know hun, I was just relating it to Rosie and what she likes to do to get away from her harness! I really miss the days where she was so proud of wearing them and used to put them over her own head! I guess its just onwards and upwards from here!

ooh yes, the dreaded in public tantrums! Bless her.
AJ's had a couple of short lived ones.

I also had a public tantrum with my nephew, tired, wanting a nap and not wanting the pushchair. He went in the pushchair, got his milk and I couldnt resist and said very loudly....'you'd think they'd never seen a toddler tantrum before'. I mean you'd think I was murdering him the looks me and my mum were getting.

We have a little life backpack for AJ, this weekend at the zoo should give it a good test :D
We also never go anywhere without the pushchair, unless were just nipping in a shop. I'm a cruel mammy though, when mammy says its time to go in the pushchair, AJ goes in the pushchair

People do make you feel like poo don't they when they stare like that!!

I don't think it's cruel when you put them in their pushchair for their own safety, I just wish you could explain to them that you're not being nasty stopping them from walking :)

Have fun at the Zoo - hope AJ is better behaved them mine (although she had been on the go for over 5 hrs without a nap so she was tired too when she threw her paddy) xx

I had to deal with Summer's first tantrum last week (she's 6). My mother told her she could have a boy doll to get her vaguely used to the idea of us having a little boy but she wanted a different doll to the one my mother wanted to buy and my god she kicked off! I was horrified as I've never ever seen her do this before. It was all down to my mother spoiling her and letting her get her own way (she knows better than to try it with me, she knows when me or OH say 'no' it means 'absolutely no' whereas if my mother says 'no' it means 'yes'!). I marched Summer out of the shop and let her tant, then when she indicated she needed a cuddle I gave her one and explained that she couldn't get her own way and she was fine. Then my mother marches out of the shop with the effing doll!!!! I went mad and made her take it back. Thankfully noone stared they just walked past, though there was also a 3ish year old tantruming at the same time! Lol x I hate that my mother can create this monster out of my little girl! x x

I've had a few pram tantrums this week and katie can't even walk yet!! And it's normally in the supermarket so I have a double buggy loaded with shopping to push and an 18 month old with her legs in plaster to carry! It's a nightmare! People stare even more at her cos of the plaster!

I feel your pain. Until recently I've been having all my shopping delivered because my son would always have a tantrum in the shop and once he gets going there's no stopping him. The first few times it's fairly easy to brush it off but it got so regular that I was worn down by it and almost burst into tears myself. I hate that people stare at you and it's even worse when they feel they have the right to comment. Although some of those people watching are most likely other mothers who have seen it all before.

People can be so rude can't they when they stare, no need for it. We haven't braved the supermarket on foot yet but it's coming up soon and I'm dreading it tbh!!
