First midwife appt

I saw my midwife when I was 9 weeks and was with her for about an hour. Lovely chat getting to know each other, she went through my book with me, gave me helpline numbers for emergencies and depression (she's part time). She booked me in for 17 weeks (slightly late cause I'm in Disneyland for my 16th week, she's looking forward to hearing all about it ) gave me my free prescription form and my Emma's diary along with the rest of my bounty pack. She also told me what to expect on each of my scan dates. Gave advice on different services offered (hypnobirthing classes, whooping cough, flu jabs) and told me when they'd test for downs etc and what blood tests would show up. I was terrified when I first went in, it's my first pregnancy that has been viable but came out feeling much more reassured. I think Gg is right, might be worth asking PALS or your surgery if it's standard to have to wait until 22 weeks. I'm very surprised as that would be most women's 3rd appointment.

Thank you for sharing, your reply is very informative x

I don't know how Long it wil be for my appt. got a feeling will be very late. I have an appt on Monday coming. Myighf ask them to chase it up. But it's with the same gp that upset me

Hi ladies

Saw my gp, and he told me the booking appt will be done around 12 weeks around the same time as the scan. He said indirectly is to make sure there is still a pregnancy..

So he said I will have to just wait.. I am abit disappointed as I would hand liked to have had a chat with a midwife during the first trimester.

I am sorry but your GP practice is full of a**holes!! The booking in appointment should be done between 8-12 weeks and I don't see any reason they can not book you in before week 12 for a chat!!! Honestly... reading this makes me so mad. Really sorry you have to deal with this x

Cinnamon my GP was exactly the same. Didn't say congratulations or anything. Just told me that most early pregnancies end in miscarriage and all I can do is sit back and wait to see if it's a miscarriage or not and if it is one then I shouldn't worry because it's normal.

I'm a constant worrier anyway, he most definitely didn't help things!!!

I had to speak to receptionist to book my midwife appointment for when I'm 8 weeks, she had no clue what she was doing and booked me in for 8 weeks time ... not 8 weeks of pregnancy ahhhh!! Just realised this and gonna change the appointment now for end of November when I'm actually 8 weeks pregnant haha x

Exactly what I was thinking KHTW, I'm So scared.. I'm even avoiding going out. I just at home all day. So far two GPS have pointed out the statistics for Mis@@@@Es.. I don't have a choice, I even spoke to reception and she she said I will have to wait until 12 weeks..

Jemrose, yeap same thing with me. I went home and cried. The gp yesterday asked me who can stop it from happening, as in the dreaded M word. I said no one, he said exactly he said pray and hope it goes well. And to just go to my EGU appt and let them know how it goes .. he wasn't worried about my daily cramps and said it must be normal for me ...

Oh Cinnamon, that makes me so sad for you. Maybe there's something to be said for living in the sticks and having a rural gp practice!

Hopefully this forum can help fill in the gaps for you. If you've worked out your expected due date (lots of online calculators) pop in and join your monthly mummies thread. I've just joined July mummies 2018. Great group of ladies and all there for each other.

Could be a great source of support for you xxx
