Good morning ladies
How many weeeks were you when you received your first midwife appointment?

😬😬😬

I was 8 weeks when I first saw my midwife but the appointment came through weeks before that it pretty much can't through as a text message the same week I phoned my doctor and told them I had a positive pregnancy test- every area is different though so yours could vary xx

6+5 when I had mine - I saw the doctor at 4+5 as I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do next when I found out, and the midwife called the week after to arrange my appt.

This June, I called on the day I was 3w4d as I got an early positive. The mw had a slot free so I went in that day. It wasn't to be and I got a brilliant and rapidly increasing bfp last week. I know my mw does Monday afternoon appointments so I'm going to check my rota when I'm in work at lunchtime and book in for when I have the next Monday free.

I've already been referred for recurrent miscarriage so waiting on that and I know it means that regardless of now being pregnant again, I will be getting an early scan and lots of extra check ups.

What should happen is that you go in for a first booking in appointment and get a pregnancy pack with some free pregnacare and lots of information. Then, about 8-10 weeks, the mw will come and visit you at home.

After that, totally depends on you and your circumstances. Xxx

I feel quite disappointed in mine after reading your post GG - I got almost no information during mine!

MW called me up on a Tuesday evening the week before to ask me to complete the maternity booklet myself before coming in for the appt. The appt itself only lasted about 8 minutes, she read what I'd written, told me I'd need to be consultant led and that she'd see me again at 24 weeks!

I took a day off work for that appt too...

Yeah, that sounds awful. Mine has been amazing. Helped me and Dan through our early losses, always called after I've had hospital appointments to check how we're doing. She's just been fabulous.

Did you not get a bounty pack summer? I was in mine at least an hour she filled out loads of forms asked about blood clots and diseases in mine and lanes family she weighed me and took my height and blood pressure, in my bounty pack I got all my details and notes and every thing I need to know if I have a problem and who to call, money of vouchers and a pack of pregnacare, she's also booked me in to see her when I'm 16 weeks pregnant which will be in a few weeks time xx

Yep...just like mine. I'm sure this one will go much more quickly.

Nope, no bounty pack, I wasn't weighed, she didn't check my height or blood pressure... I felt so disappointed leaving as it's my first pregnancy too. Having never done this before, I wasn't sure if my appt was pretty standard and I'd just been expecting too much. There's a part of me that's relieved I don't have to see her again until 24 weeks! I don't have any idea who to call if I have any problems - I guess I would just call the surgery? Hey ho, onwards and upwards now I guess! I'm envious of your experiences  x

If your not happy I'd ask for a different midwife Hun, this is a special time for us, this is also our first baby so we wasn't sure what to expect, I'd of said every area is different but GG sounds similar to me and I'm in Rotherham/Sheffield area so miles away. My notes tell me to phone the epau if I have any issues or concerns so if you do (fingers crossed you don't) but I'd call them xxx

Thank you Holli. I am going to sit on this for a bit before making any rushed decisions as I'm fairly sure she's the only midwife at my GP surgery and i don't want to make a fuss over what might have just been an 'off-day'. Thank you very much for your kind words though - it's so nice to know I'm not just being unreasonable! xx

My oh Dan works closely with and previously worked in the NHS. Just had a chat to him. Your midwife service is probably through your local CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) so you could try contacting them or...find the details for your local PALS (Patient Liason) and let them know how you are feeling. The point of the bounty pack is to arm you with advice and also collect important information to determine the level of care you need through your pregnancy. You should have it now, not at 24 weeks so definitely follow this up.

Fight your corner, for you and baby xxx

Thank you GG xx

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Cinnamon!!!

No don't worry x
I have had a similar experience to you.. when o told my gp I was pregnant, she bluntly to understand 1 in 3 end in miscarriages and then referred to to EPU due to miscarriage history..

She didn't ask me any questions and didn't provide me and information.

I went in again to the GP for a different reason, and it was a different GP he said he was going to refer me for a booking midwife appt.. took basic details.. and told me I will be receiving a appt. again I was not given anything Or given no advice except to take folic acid.

I'm suffering daily abdominal pains but been told not to contact EPU or gp unless I'm on very severe pain. I feel lonely or can I say lost.. but trying to ignore it by watching movies 🙈

Oh Cinnamon, that makes me so sad for you. Maybe there's something to be said for living in the sticks and having a rural gp practice!

Hopefully this forum can help fill in the gaps for you. If you've worked out your expected due date (lots of online calculators) pop in and join your monthly mummies thread. I've just joined July mummies 2018. Great group of ladies and all there for each other.

Could be a great source of support for you xxx

I saw my midwife when I was 9 weeks and was with her for about an hour. Lovely chat getting to know each other, she went through my book with me, gave me helpline numbers for emergencies and depression (she's part time). She booked me in for 17 weeks (slightly late cause I'm in Disneyland for my 16th week, she's looking forward to hearing all about it ) gave me my free prescription form and my Emma's diary along with the rest of my bounty pack. She also told me what to expect on each of my scan dates. Gave advice on different services offered (hypnobirthing classes, whooping cough, flu jabs) and told me when they'd test for downs etc and what blood tests would show up. I was terrified when I first went in, it's my first pregnancy that has been viable but came out feeling much more reassured. I think Gg is right, might be worth asking PALS or your surgery if it's standard to have to wait until 22 weeks. I'm very surprised as that would be most women's 3rd appointment.
