First antenatal class tonight! UPDATED AT LAST!

Hiya,

We have the first of our 3 week parentcraft antenatal class tonight!

Scary!

I think the first one is about labour. I think next week is pain relief and god know what the other one is.

I am really nervous. More about meeting the other people. Will they all be really old, or all be really young, or all be married with a house!

I worry too much i know!

Don't worry about the other people, you are all having a baby which is enough common ground so you will have plenty to talk about.

how exciting!! i went with my first pregnancy and was nervous but everyone turned out to be very nice but like you said they were all in their late 20's -30's so i was only 19 at the time and felt a bit out of place but i still looked forward to the classes

Sorry i have been offline for ages!

The class was great and really useful! The midwife was a bit scary but very knowledgable and good at making you feel at ease.

We covered birth and pain releif options. It was very useful and as they talk about your hospital in particular its nice to know what to expect!

I only freaked a bit at the picture of how dilated 10 cms is! And when she pulled the baby doll through the womans pelvis i got quite worried

And there were a mix of older and younger and no one was too wierd! Here's to class 2 next wednesday!!

Ahh the joys we yet to have to endure!! I'm so pleased the class went well for you though, i'm sure number two will be even more relaxed and friendly. Out of curiosity was it an NHS class and how many people/couples were there? xx

Yes it was the free NHS parantcraft ones.

There were about 8 couples i think? Quite a nice number

Thanks, just wondering as my midwife seems to think my group will be 14 couples (so possibly a whopping 28 people) plus the 2 instructors, I just can't imagine 30 people in a room all trying to learn intimate details etc....and if everyone had just one question it would take a good portion of class time away. I've booked with the NCT but might pop my head around the door of my NHS one and see how many people are there and whether I might then stay!! I live right beside the hospital so would only be a wasted 5 minute walk if I wanted to come home! Glad to hear yours was a nice size - gives me hope about mine!! xx

Might as well pop in if they are free. i wondered if they would be worth it but mine are very informative and a good mix of people.

We couldn't get in to the hospital so ouyrs were at a local surgery which was actually better. A small room but i wonder if they pack more people in to the ones at the hospital??

Will do...the NCT ones are local and start in June so got a while to go yet, the midwife seems to think I'll start NHS ones (if I want to go) around the 30 week marker, I'm only just coming up to 18 weeks so again a while to go. Will let you know though
