So after 16 days I've finally cracked it after buying so Madela nipple shields. She latched on straight away!

Up to now I've been using an electric pump 8 times a day, managing to express about a litre of milk a day and she has been drinking all of that.

So should I continue to express a few times a day just in case? I want to make sure I keep up a good supply because she's a very hungry little girl!

Congratulations! ! Well done for persevering! My little girl didnt latch until day 10 but as soon as she was managing herself I stopped expressing and just gave her boob xxxx

Exactly what happened to me Sarah. We got H to latch on day 5 with medela shields, and we are still using them 10 wks on. I still express at least a bottle a day to keep my supply up, but when he first latched I stopped expressing completely for a few days to give him a chance to do his thing.

Congrats btw!!

What time of day do you express Sarah? I would like to keep a bottle in the fridge just in case.

She has been feeding on and off all afternoon and staying on the boob for quite a long time so I'm not sure how she will be over night. Whilst I've been bottle feeding her I have been giving her about 4oz about 11pm then she doesn't wake til about 3am then she has a little bit and sleeps til about 6am.

This is all a bit scary because I have no idea how much she is drinking now!

Yeah it is worrying, but as long as she is weeing/ having yellow poos, and is settling between feeds then she's getting enough. For me the best time to express is first thing in the morning but its different for everyone. I find its better for me then because he had fed less over night then he would in the day so there's more milk in my boobs if that makes sense.

Its such a great feeling though isn't it. It makes all the tears & battling bubba worth it when they are on the boob feeding lovely.

I had latching problems too. She seemed to get it at first, with the colostrum. But once my milk came in it just wasn't working.
I was expressing but struggled to get all that much. But used nipple shields and now it's easy!!
Nipples still hurt when she's feeding at times as her suck is incredible! But hungry girl as she's got a LOT of growing to do!
