Am making my christmas hams this evening - one cooked in cola with a sweet glaze (sounds weird but tastes amazing!), the other a traditional ham.

My kitchen smells like christmas :D

mm sounds yummy.I have my ham to cook tomorow, though im usually boring and just boil it.what do you do with cola?

Ham??? I thought christmas was all about the turkey

It's a Nigella recipe - made it last year and now plan to do it every year EVER as it is really yummy!

It's dead easy - you just boil the ham in coke instead of water and then glaze it.

Mmmmmmm......

PS - Lou the ham is for the buffet!

Ah the buffet! Of course

Take no notice of me, I was vegetarian until recently lol

:D

now that really does sound yummy,i think i might give it atry.is theham really sweet?

ooo one question, you know the pan you boil it in?is the pan ruined afterwards?should i use a really old pan just thinking it might stain with it being cola.

It has a sweetness to it - but it's not as overly sweet as you might imagine, it has quite a christmassy spicy taste to it cos of the coke (I always think coke tastes quite christmassy anyway!). Equivalent I guess to having honey roast ham or something like that - in fact I would say it is slightly less sweet than that. Ok I'm waffling now.....

No the pan is fine - mine is quite new and non-stick and I've just rinsed it to do the other ham in and it's come clean.

Kim and Aggie reckon coke is good for getting pans clean anyway - gets really tough marks off (there you go, make a ham and clean your pans at the same time!)

cool :D deffo gonna try it.

thanx for the advice  i will be cooking mine tomorow dont know how long it will last though by the time its cooked we will be sampling it :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ooh sounds lovely hun :D I dont have to cook anything as we are spending Christmas at in laws

I usually find that there is a little piece that falls off while it's cooking...always good for taste test......!

Snuggle - we are at mum and dads for xmas but I am making ham again as
1) That is part of our contribution to the food and drink and
2) We wanted extra to have at home as when you don't host xmas you don't have any of the yummyness in the fridge!

I never thought about that, bet your kitchen smells fab right now. My mouth is watering :D

It really REALLY does smell good at the moment.

I've finished the cola one and the traditional one is cooking now - it's the bay leaves and cloves I can smell

HO HO HO!

I did it!

its yuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmy :D had to try it,ive a feeling it wont be hanging round for long

My sister has made the cola ham before and it is yummy!! :)

I cooked my one today - I do it with a plum and port glaze - it is luuuuush! :)
