Should've posted this here!

Another Q!

MW agreed today that Eliot should be bottlefed. We agreed that I would continue to express the colostrum, and also just keep up with the fennel tea/oats, etc. to see if that helped. Lovely husband got me my fenugreek tablets today from Holland & Barratt - how many should I take a day? xx

Hi

Think you can take up to 3, three times a day.

Not sure of your story, but can I ask why the midwife is advising bottle feeding? Do you want to bottle feed or are there breastfeeding issues?

xxxx

Thank you - I'll do that.
Just not producing any milk :(
I use the pump but only get about 2ml each time. He can't latch on, either. He lost lots of weight. I did want to bf very much, but it just didn't work out. Such a shame.
Xxx

Hun, get in touch with your local BFing support group, every area has one. If you spk to a HV or midwife they should have info. Someone might even get out to you, they did with me, but it's not too late. My milk took a week to come in and LO lost alot of weight so I did have to top up with cup feeding, but soon as his latch was sorted too (he was tongue tied) we never looked back, stll BFing now.

Good luck hun, if you want to get LO on the boob get that help hun, coz it is there and they are fantastic. They know alot more than midwives and HVs too xxxxx

Meant to say, LOTS of skin to skin. Just have LO on you both naked and let him find your boobs, no trying to latch him if he's not trying etc but it will bond you both and help increase your supply too. Skin to skin is vital in the early days xxxx

I am struggling with the supply too, thanks for posting. I bought Fenugreek, will try and see if it works.

I spoke to lactation consultant and they said i am doing everything right, I just might have to top up.

I have been trying very hard to do exclusive bf but there is nothing else i can do really, will try fenugreek as the last resort

I feel that you are just lacking in confidence with your supply, not lacking in supply itself. From what I read hun you do everything you can and you don't do anything wrong. your LO is gaining weight, not losing, and is happy and healthy. Feel proud of yourself because you are nuturing your baby the way your body is designed to do. Please stop doubting yourself.

He did gain weight but he is so hugry, i feel likei am confined to my bed:wall2:
He fed for 5 hours straight yesterday before i caved in and gave him the formula, I just needed a break. He took nearly 100 ml on top of all the food he got out of the boobs. I havent topped up today, will see if my supply starts getting better.

After I gave him formula he slept in his moses basket for the first time ever, this does tell me that he possibly isnt getting enough. He was all smiles and not grumpy as usual

Unfortunately that's what it's like for the first few months. I remember sitting with Oz attached to me for over 6 hours once before I broke down and said I can't do it anymore, he's not getting enough etc But it's just what they do. Nobody warned us about that did they lol Once you get to 3 months it drops alot, I mean drastically, then 4 months reduces again and then 6 months I was down to 3 feeds a day! his feeds generally last 10 mins max, both sides now!

Sorry posted too quick...

Meant to say you defo have to do what feels right for you and your baby though, obviously happy mummy = happy baby and that is the most important thing. Some babies are more suited to formula for the reason it fills them up quicker, my friends baby was like this too.

But, just don't worry about your supply, it's doing what it should hun xxxxxx

havent read through this whole thread as I have a cheeky monkey demanding my attention but I just wanted to let you girls know that I had a section and my baby didnt latch on, and had massive problems with my milk supply. I worked with a breast feeding specialist and my baby did latch on at 6 weeks old for the first time. It was amazing. I didnt get the support I needed from my GP to help my milk supply so his main feeding method was formula bottle feeding but seriously, it was worth all the effort to have that moment  if you feel that you really want to BF, then you dont have to give up now. Also the time we managed it was in the bath, and the specialist said that this is something she hears a lot, for some reason being in the bath really helps.

Just wanted to give you guys some hope :flower:

I had section with my son leo he wouldn't latch on and I tried and tried in hospital to the point he went jauncine, but the hospital staff ignored me everytime I asked for help wouldn't help me express, so in the end he was bottlefed and I felt like a failure. He did latch on once after a bath when we were doing skin to skin, but he threw it all up afterwards so my OH was scared and said not to do it again.
In the end I'm just happy he is here and alive after what the hospital did to me and him during my rushed induction of hell.

mine was induction hell too. Christ it scares me the more stories i hear about it

i get diabetic when pregnant so was induced at 38 weeks, 2 days later had section, after they poked me and hurt me was horrible my epidural snapped so had spinal on top I was paranoid my legs wouldn't work afterwards lol.
