At my hospital appointment today, my BP is on the high side and my protein reading is 27, above 30 and I'll be diagnosed with preeclampsia and admitted for delivery within 2 weeks. I'm scared for my own health more thank anything as they said that the baby will be fine delivering early.

Has anyone else had this and been ok? Need a bit of reassurance x

I've been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and had 3 overnight stay in hospital in the past 10 days.

How high was your blood pressure? Did they discuss medication with you? I've been put on labetalol and it has worked a treat to keep my BP stable.

Xx

I had pre-eclampsia with my first baby. It was severe - I needed labetalol and nifedipine in massive doses, plus magnesium sulphate to prevent it turning into eclampsia. I was on bp meds for 6 months post delivery, but otherwise absolutely fine. My bp is perfectly normal now (at its worst it was 220/110 and now it's around 116/78) and I've not had any lasting effects. My baby was also ok (she'd actually stopped growing due to it, but as I said, I had it pretty severely - it affected my placenta and therefore she wasn't getting everything she needed). She was tiny baby and is now a petite 3 year old, but she is very healthy and extremely bright.

I think what I'm trying to say in a roundabout way is that even if you develop a severe form you will be ok as they are monitoring you - there are meds to help your bp and usually delivering the baby completely resolves the pre-eclampsia. I'm sure you'll be ok xx

I had pre eclampsia and apart from a headache after a c section (baby distressed during induction) I was completely fine

Hi, I had severe pre-eclampsia also, very similar story to Ella1979, I was 37 weeks so was induced immediately even though they gave me high doses of nifedipine & labetalol to try to stabilise my BP, also had to have magnesium sulphate to prevent development of eclampsia. Other than prolonged stay in hospital while they got my BP under some sort of control, both myself & my daughter were fine. I now have very bright 15 month old who is perfect & I'm no longer on BP meds. However am expecting #2 so keeping an eye out for any symptoms in case it returns. Hope you feel better & your appointment goes ok today xx
