Hi everyone

I am new here, but have skipped the intro, sorry hope you don't think this is rude but just need to get my question out there.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant with my first child and nervous as hell, baby was planned but still a shock lol

I found out at 4 weeks, the week before this I had had a severe allergic reaction to hair dye and was really ill back and forth to hospital. I thought it was because I was ill and the medication I was on that my period was late. Anyways, the week I was ill I didn't eat hardly anything, max a piece of toast a day. Even though I was more hungry than I'd ever been the reaction felt like the rash was inside me and made it painful to eat anything.

After a week of this my medication kicked in and I started feeling like I could handle food... well I started eating and I don't want to stop.

I'm not eating the whole time I'm awake, in the morning I'm good with cereal and a ryvita or something, then fruit during the morning, normal (for me) lunch and dinner, but it's the snacks in the afternoon/evening. I'm not eating LOADS, but the amount of weight I'm gaining is drastic. I'm only having say 3/4 biscuits a day or 2 packets of baked crisps instead of 1!

None of my clothes are fitting, all the weight is going around my middle. I feel like a right sack of spuds!

Is this normal?

My first midwife appt is on 1 June, and I can't talk to my doctor, he was so uninterested to talk to me about being pregnant he did no test of his own and didn't even write it in my notes. I will be changing surgeries, but am waiting to talk to the midwife about best female doctor in my area.

Also, I'm normally running 6-9 miles a week, but can't run at the moment. But I am walking at least an hour a day with my dog, sometimes 1 hour morning 1 hour evening so I am getting some exercise!

Does anyone have any dietry advice.

Thanks for your time x

its very normal to bloat out in first few weeks have you weighed yourself it may be bloating not weightgain dont try to loose weight just eat healthly iv gain over a stone and half in 20wks but il worry about it fter lol

Hi Maria , welcome to PF , I am also 6 weeks at the mo so we will be close together, when are you due?

Yeah should just be bloating, and then suddenly you will feel quite a bit slimmer again before the real baby size gain arrives in Tri 2 onwards.

If the eating is really bad , I would try to split you main meal into two so you can reheat theother half later instead of snacking. or have 4 small meals instead ofk 2 for lunch and dinner.

Try dried fruit as an alternative snacky type thing to the extra baked crisps, as they really are not very filling.I go to a healthfood shop and get bigger bags so lots of choice and tip all in a large tub for several weeks.

Hope the bloating goes soon X

Hi, thanks for all your replies.

Bloating my be the reason. Woke up this morning and there is a noticeable difference that my middle had got a bit smaller!

I'm bad at weighing myself, apart from the nurse doing it when I was on the pill I haven't weighed myself since high school lol, so can't weigh myself to find out if it is extra weight!!

I went online and and looked at a due date calculator, my last period started on 6 April and it showed due date 10 Jan 2011, but that I would enter the 42nd week on 24 Jan 2011 so I was a bit confused if it should've shown 10 Feb? Either way, my bday is 27 Jan so it would be funny if my baby was born on the same day!

Can't wait for my midwife appt, feel a bit lost at the moment as this is my first time and it's all so new and overwhelming.

xxxx

ive only gained 3 pounds in the last three weeks but have gone up a dress size on the bottom half because of so much bloat! i know how u feel! not so much dietry advice but i find drinking loadss helps just coz it helps flush everything out quicker and stops the water retention which makes things even worse xxx
