Hi Ladies - I'm new to the forum, so please be gentle with me... but I wanted to share something that is really worrying me.

I'm eight and a half weeks pregnant and prior to getting pregnant I had been doing Lighter Life (a low calorie diet) and had managed to get down to 10.7lb. I felt amazing and was really proud of myself. However, since becoming pregnant I have been constantly tired and the only thing that I have been able to stomache is fruit and chocolate. I haven't been eating excessive amounts of chocolate - about a bar a day - but I have already put on a stone. I am so depressed about it and know this is far too much for this stage in my pregnancy, but don't know what to do. In the last week my nausea has reduced and I have managed to eat other healthy foods, cutting out the chocolate, yet I am still putting on weight. I feel really horrible and disgusting and am worried that I am going to end up a fat mother and more importantly that my weight gain is going to have a negative impact on my baby.

Has anyone else had a huge weight gain in their first few weeks and has it settled down?

I am only just over 5 weeks and before I got pregnant I competed in a figure competition and was 9 stone 4 after dieting for 17 weeks and losing nearly 2 stone now I have put a stone back on and am finding it really difficult to keep up with any kind of exercising except walking - it does get you down but if you are eating healthy foods and getting your vitamins it will not have a negative impact on the baby. Plus some of that weight could be water rentention because of the increase in hormones.

Have you weighed yourself, hun?

I felt like a huge, disgusting whale, my tummy is all bloated and I'm not liking myself much, but when the midwife put me on the scales, I was 8 st, which is quite a reasonable weight for me.

I think feeling bloated is a major factor at this stage, and we all feel fatter than we really are.

I put on about a stone in first 12 weeks and have not weighed myself since. Even my midwife has not weighed me - I will worry about it after baby is born!

Thanks girls, I think you may be right about the bloating. My fingers feel puffy and I feel worse towards the end of the day. I think I'm beating myself up because I worked so hard to lose my weight and in a matter of weeks I've put quite a lot.

I weighed myself the other day and I had put on 10lbs... I feel even bigger than I did the other day so I am sure I am over the stone mark now.

As long as you think the baby will be ok, that is the only thing that truly matters. I need to try and separate that from my vanity!

Thanks so much for your support and in some ways it's nice to know I'm not alone! x
