Has anyone else or their partners got familial hypercholesterolemia? If they have what have they been told the liklihood of their baby having it is?

We informed out midwife, but she didn't seem too bothered tbh, but it killed my oh's mum when she was 31, so it's something I'm quite worried about.

not something i know anything about, i do know modern medicine is amazing though and theres a good chance baby will be fit and well, ask at your scan hun too, maybe they will be more helpful than your midwife, i am magic and if i keep you in my heart all will be good, i really hope so

I had no idea what this was until I looked it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familial_h ... sterolemia

Midwives seem more concerned about stuff on the mother's side than the father's. Marcus' paternal grandmother has diabetes and they weren't concerned about that. Also my dad has an underactive thyroid and although it was noted, the midwife this time didn't seem unduly concerned about it. I think if it is something where there is a greater chance of your baby having it she would have have taken more notice. Maybe she just hadn't heard of it, but will probably have written it in your notes so when your consultant sees it, they may be able to make a more educated response. I would research and ask some more medical type bods for reassurance

Hey I have it myself and usually on medication although unable to take during pregnancy so that is my 1st priority once baba arrives is to have cholesterol checked and get back on the tablets asap. I have been on medication since primary school, my mum also had it, sadly she died 5 years ago (not related). I am unsure of the likelyhood of passing it on to baba altho I would say that chances are pretty high. Im sure if u ask doctor or the consultant u r under during your pregnancy they will b able to help xx
