H is now 19 weeks old and 48 hours ago I started my first post birth period.
I'm loosing so much blood it's not true! Ive gone through FIVE whole packs of super heavy towels already. After 30 minutes the towel is flooded and I've literally (sorry TMI coming up) got blood running down my legs. When I lie down overnight I wake up 1.5-2 hours later in a pool of blood with a saturated towel. I've just spent 20 minutes soaking in the bath and the whole lot was so red I ended up cleaning the bath and having a shower to get the blood off!

I'm in no pain at all, but feeling pretty tired! Is this normal? Even directly post birth I was changing pads every 2 hours. This is much more!

I usually have light periods so I'm a bit shocked!

That does sound rather a lot. I've had two periods since giving birth and neither of them were anything out of the ordinary, but maybe that's just me.

Hopefully some more people will be along shortly to give you their experience.

i think you should go to a and e hun i really dont think losing that much blood is normal but atleast ring nhs direct hope everything is ok xx

I'd definitely go see someone. I used to suffer from really heavy periods but that much bleeding would make me go to a and e. I hope you can get seen. X

My first period was extremely heavy but not to that extent, I would get it checked out!
Xxx

Thanks girls, I woke in a pool of blood this morning, it's also started gushing. I got half way across the landing after putting on a fresh pad earlier and felt a huge gush, pad flooded, jeans ruined, only just got off the cream carpet in time! Spoken to NHS direct and nurse at my local practice. They want me to go in and see the doctor today.

What did Dr say hun!

I didn't see this earlier but all my periods have been normal since (I had first one when bub was 8 weeks and went back on pill with second one at 12 weeks!)

Hope all is OK with you, it sounds like you were losing a lot of blood!

xxxxxxxxxx

I'm okay. On tablets to stop the bleeding. What I'm loosing is apparently very abnormal both in volume and as it's pure fresh blood with no clots. Its a cause for concern as I was severely anaemic in pregnancy then lost 3.5 pints during c-section so they need to stop it ASAP.

Don't think it's retained placenta as I had a c-section. Got to have a scan, but in true NHS style as I'm not dying imminently I've got to wait a few weeks to be booked in.

So until the tablets work I am sponsored by bodyform!

let us know how you get on hun i know they are awful things but would it be a bit cheaper to get yourdelf some maternity towels they may last a bit longer? xx

blimey glad your ok and have towels to stop the bleeding

Could you get some maternity pads? May last a little longer xx
