This is a strange one. I went to a mothercare parenting event yesterday and asked the midwife there and she also had no idea.

I have Gestational Diabetes - diet controlled at the moment but bordering on needing meds. Induction booked for 19th October but If I need to be put onto meds, I will be induced earlier. I have been asked to express colostrum prior to the birth as baby may need additional help once born. He may have low sugars due to being used to a "high sugar environment"

I have successfully managed to fill the 1ml syringes (teeny tiny things) but I am violently sick afterwards. I am not sick any other time and normal sickness eased quite a few weeks back.

I have spoken with some ladies on here about it who suggested it may be the release of oxytocin that is causing the sickness, but wondering if anyone has any other ideas?

I bf my son until he was 13months old so I know it's not a bodily reaction to the expressing.

Thanks in advance x

Strange, it seems like it could be hormonal but I dont really know.

I hope it's due to the surge in hormones and it disappears after the birth.

Different hormones i suppose because after the placenta is out youd also have prolactin. So it might be the sudden surge of just oxytocin x

That makes sense to me also. I dont see it being a problem after the baby is born esspecially if you already BF without a problem in the past. Funny question, but do you actually feel really queezy or do you just get a sudden urge to throw up? I kept throwing up in labour but didnt actually feel that sick just had the urge to throw up. I also know some women who BF when pregnant find it makes their morning sickness.
