Hi all, I need some advice as I had such a bad day yesterday with feeding I was in tears and nearly reached for the bottle!

I need to find a way of expressing to build a supply of frozen milk ( William takes a bottle of expressed milk when I'm not around for various reasons) while breast feeding without increasing my supply too much. I expressed twice on Monday and fed him both bottles but yesterday something had changed and he wasn't feeing well. He was latching and suckling then throwing his head back ( milk spraying everywhere) screaming and arching his back, wouldn't go on for ages , loads of wind. After some research I think I have a v strong let down which seems to be worse when my breasts are full which is making him not feed well.

How much can I express, or when should I do it to make sure I don't get so full that William can't feed without drowning when I let down?

I haddent expressed for a while and have just started in the last few days but before this my boobs seemed to have normalised as they felt soft all of the time but there was always milk for him.

I'm thinking if I just express once per day at the same time will it eventually calm down? And will my let down chill out? Cos this has never bothered him before?

Any help welcome

I think your idea of expressing at the same time each day and express the same amount should mean that your body is producing that amount and what baby takes so your supply should settle. Not sure how old your little one is but I've had the same problems, over active letdown and oversupply so feel your pain and also spent time crying when feeding with a fussy fussy baby.

My supply took a while to settle - he was much easier to feed by 8 weeks and as he got older he seems to cope with the spray better. However each time we have a growth spurt he increases my supply which is fine, but then after the growth spurt he dosnt want all the extra milk with force and gets fussy again! Just going through that again now! But he is feeding less overall now so when he is fussy at least it's not so frequent!

Thanks Hun, he is 10 weeks , it's been better today. Expressed 5oz this morning and then during feeding when my let down goes nuts I just hand express a little into a muslin to calm it down , he still screams but less then yesterday
