Exclusively expressing and travelling

DH and I have booked a surprise trip to Ireland to visit my parents just before xmas.

I'm stressing out about expressing - more to the point, storing the milk.

Its about 2 hr drive to ferry terminal, 2 hr ferry ride and 90 min car journey to my mothers house

There is no fridge in the hotel room But I can store milk in my mums fridge.

Whats the best thing to do - take frozen milk for the journey, and a little extra? I have quite a stock in the freezer. Then just store at my mums fridge when I get there?

Will I just have to dump anything that I express on the way? (I'm going to express in the car) This breaks my heart that I may have to do this as its bloody hard work expressing! Could I use the frozen milk in a cool bag to keep the fresh milk cool enough till I get to my mums house?

Any help or advice much appreciated

A frozen block lasts usually at least 8 h. I would take a couple o those in a thermos bag and put the milk in there after expressing. That's how I did it at least when expressing out and about and no problems. I used the medela thermos bag with the special ice block that comes with it.

We have a cool box that you plug in to the ciggy lighter in the car, we've used it as a fridge when we've been camping for the weekend. If you want extra peace of mind maybe have a look at something like that

Maybe you could use the milk you express on the journey within the six hours it can stay out as his next feed?? Xx

If you go onto Boots online it's called medela storage bag - comes with bottles as well.

Remember as well hun that you can keep breast milk at room temp (no higher than 25c) for up to 6 hours THEN in the fridge for 5 days THEN in the freezer for 6 months. So you shouldn't have to dump x

I got mine from amazon, super fast delivery. I still use it though I am not expressing anymore to get her milk out and about or upstairs for her night feed, I even put my oh lunch there once lol. The ice block is really good and as it has the shape of the bottles everything stays cool very long and nice.
